Posted by Hypothyroidism and Becoming Father
on November 20, 2000 at 13:46:42:
I am 32 year old Male. I have been diagnosed as having Hypothyroidism with TSH around 80 about a month back. I do not have any symptoms The thyroid antibodies test a week later showed the presence of high number of antibodies than the normal ( Hashimoto's Thyroiditis ). I was asked to go for Ultrasound which I did. It didn't show any serious abnormalities. Doctor wanted me to go for Thyroid scan to determine the functionality of the thyroid gland. I have yet to go for the Thyroid Scan. The medication has not started yet.
Few days back my wife's Early Pregnancy Test came out positive. That Urine test was done twice and it confirmed both the times.
I would like to know
1)whether the baby will also have Hypothyroidism.
2)whether the baby will be healthy in terms of IQ, etc.
Somewhere I read that if the mother is hypothyroid during pregnancy, the baby will have less IQ. What is the effect of Father being hypothyroid?
3) Any precautions that I need to take so that baby will be healthy and have no problems.
Please post your knowledge and experiences at the earliest. I am not able enjoy the news of me becoming father with so many questions in mind. Hoping to hear from you guys at the earliest.
