Try asking the doctor about the companies that will supply prescription drugs free of charge to low/no income people. He should have the applications at his office.

Also, ask if he will work with you, as it is important to have continuity in the medicine.
NO... if you need thyroid med, you need it.
There is no substitute. Supplemental iodine is ONLY for those proven to be deficient. It is dangerous to take it when we have thyroid problems. Iodine is not a substitute for thyroid med.

POSSIBLY you could get a dessicated thyroid from a health food store, but that costs money too.
You would have to regulate it yourself, and I would not recommend this. But if you feel forced to, at least learn both hyper and hypo symptoms so you can adjust the thyroid accordingly. Too much can give a heart attack, so PLEASE be careful.
