: The disc in my Tempero mandibular joint has slipped, and I cannot open my mouth, chew, or lie on my back without pain. Has anyone had this problem? Has anyone had treatment for it? I would appreciate any advice you may have as I live in India and am going to have to go back to the States for treatment, and I just don't know what to expect. Thank you. I had the same problem two years ago. I lived w/it for six months and then had a steroid injection at Mass General Hospital. Before the injection my jaw was locked and couldn't open more than 25mm. After the injection I could open it 45mm and the pain was much less intense. That was about 19 months ago and in the past few months my jaw has been clicking a lot and this can be extremely painful. The next step would be surgery, which I am trying to avoid. I guess the injection just loosens up the joint, but it cannot put the disc back in place. However, they cannot guarantee that surgery would work either, so the injection is a much less risky thing to do. Good Luck! f
