Dear Tracy: I hope your pain is much better. Many people recover from TMJ with conservative approaches, eg., splints, anti-inflamm,etc. Some of us require more extensive help--usually surgery is only done as a last resort and primarily for joint problems. If your problem is muscular, then surgery is not helpful. Do not be afraid to require stronger meds from your doc, if you need them. I use Ultram for milder pain, Vicodin for more severe pain: they work well for many of us and are virtually non-addictive. Al email@example.com
