: Hi -

: About 3 weeks ago I woke up and my jaw clicked a few times and was extremely sore. I realized that I can only open my mouth so much. There is an ache on the left side only. I have never had any problems before. I don't have any other syptoms. I went to an oral surgeon and he put my on ibuprofen during the day and valium at night. He is hoping that this will relax the muscles. He took an xray of my jaw and saw nothing wrong.
: I have been on the medicine for only a few days be there is no improvement.

: I am worried that I may have the beginnings of TMJ but have no idea. Is there anyone out there
: who has had these systems.

: Please help. Thanks in advance. (Also, I am a health 30 year old female.)

: Laura

I have similar symptoms. I don't have the body aches that everyone complains of. My jaw just clicked a few times, and after I woke from a nap later that day my jaw was "locked". The next day morning it "unlocked" but later it locked again, and has been that way for a few days. I don't have much pain, except when I try to open my mouth wider. right now I can't open it much. I think my disk might have slipped. I am woried too that I might have "TMJ". I only have this locking problem on one side, and have a normal bite.. as of now. Have you found anyways, to "unlock" your jaw. I'm hoping my jaw can function fully as before, but looks I might have to settle for opening my mouth a little bit and having not much pain. I don't think you can see the tmj joint through an X-ray, because the tmj problems are mostly associated w/ the cartilage and muscles.. and the disk!
