Rebecca, Ibuprofen is noted for causing stomach distress but is a GREAT anti-inflammatory. Maybe you should try it agin but this time make sure you take it with food and/or milk to coat your stomach. The over-the-counter medication Aleve is also another good medication to try. Be aware that oral surgeons are just that - Surgeons- and their job is to cut. You might do better to find a regular dentist who specializes in non-surgical TMJ treatment. There are so many good and successful alternatives to surgery. (Ex: massage therapy, ultrasound therapy, wearing an appliance, etc) Marie
