I have tmj really bad. I got one jaw joint surgery. I had the roof of my mouth made bigger. I have braces and I get them off in two months. I feel alot of pain in both of my jaw joints still. I klench my teeth constantly. I do it all day and night. The only thing that has ever worked for me is a little splint that I wore under my front teeth. It caused me to not bite with my back teeth. The first dentist that I went to made me a splint that went over my back teeth. I bit that constantly. It made my jaw pain much worse. I can't wait to get my braces off and go to my jaw specialist and get another splint made.
The $12,000.00 that I am in dept for has been well worth it though. I can chew food and talk and my smile has never been better. I hate the bill but I can actually go day to day knowing that I would be in a hell of a mess had I not had surgery. My insurance did not cover hardly anything. If you have tmj make sure that you never get anything on top of your back teeth. It will cause you to bite. When you bite with your back teeth you use your jaw muscles and joints. It will make your jaw joints worse than they were before.
Braces have helped me a little. A splint under your front teeth is the only way to go for pain management and help.
