My acne was very moderate but got to the point where it was mostly on my cheeks and jawline, and left nasty red marks. Since using the differin cream my friends have noticed my skin looking healthier,I am still debating wether or not to try glycolic acis cream to fade the red marks,(do you know anything about that)? I now take tetracyclin(sp) 500mg a day and wash with neutregena acne cream wash and use healthy skin moisterizer. Hopefully this all works. I am 30 yrs old and beleive it or not acne is new for me! Sorry about the long book! GOOD LUCK

Thanks Ahl, very encouraging..I've noticed that most people on Differin report much more positively when they've also been taking Tetracycline.. So, as far as the Differin goes, how long does a 45mg tube last you? Or, in the case that you have 15mg tubes, how long? Also, how much and how often do you take your tetracycline? -Thanks.. --=Infinity

I use 500mg of tetrecyclylin (sp) once a day, You have to take it on an empty stomach usually in the a.m.,that was very inexpensive 30 day supply for $5.oo, the differin 15 tube should last me about 2-3 months since you only use a pea sized amount once daily, this was covered by my insurance for 15.oo. My friend who has moderate to severe acne has been on differin and azelic cream for over a year and her skin is wonderful. She said the key is to use it faithfully. Hope this helps.

Are you serious, a 15g tube (about .6 oz) lasts 2-3 months?!?! Wow that's incredible, I was thinking that it would last about 2-3 weeks tops! Yeesh wow if it can last that long you may have just inspired me to go for it.. And only 1 500mg tab of Tetracyclene/day? On an empty stomach, so when do you usually take it, first thing in the morning? Thanks, you're being ultra helpful.. --=Infinity

Pea sized? If I use anything "pea sized" it usually has dissapeared in my fingers before I even have the chance to put it on my cheeks. You cant be serious that the less differin, the better? Even if its such a small amount that you barely feel it go on? Well, I dont even have to pay for my differin, because if you ask the derm, theyll give you hundreds of little differin samples, lasts a long time. No need to buy it. The companies who are getting rich off of this stuff are more than happy to give the derm offices tons of samples- they want you to buy their product. It doesnt cost the derms anything.

Hmmmm... Well, assuming that I couldn't get a hold of hundreds of differin samples (that is, of course, unless you'd consider sending them to me and I'd re-imburse you gladly for the shipping ), what have the rest of you found is the cheapest way to get Differin. The best deal I've found on the web is a 30g tube for $17 with shipping included, but when you go to the Differin home site, they state that Differin is only sold in 15g and 45g tubes, so I'm sorta sketched out about ordering online Differin that comes in a size that it's not supposed to. I wrote them and they told me that the 30g tubes are how they are commonly packaged in countries outside the US..Hmmm.. --=Infinity

oh no, Infinity! your insurance doesn't cover Differin? God I feel lucky, cuz I complain that they charge me $8 for 45g as opposed to the $4 charge for generic products. and my parents pay for it anyway. some people aren't so lucky. all the more reason to try natural supplements, i guess! cheers, tom

My derm. suggested a pea sized amount of differin cream and it has worked for me. At first I tried to use more but it just inflamed my face and dried it out. I have noticed past post on the board that says the same thing. Maybe because I have sensitive skin it works,so the tube does last me longer because I don't use as much.I dont want to mislead anybody, just wanted to let you know what worked for me.......

Infinity, My derm. told me the 15 tube would last that long, I've only been on it for 3-4 weeks, and barely have used any of the tube, although I started out with 2 small samples I only used one and then saved the other for when I travel. Just to warn you my skin does look great no new acne, but within the last few days my skin feels tight and dry, called my derm she said to use the cream every other day or every 3 days. My moisterizer is actually stinging my face at this point. OUCH! Hopefully this will subside with less use of the differin cream. Again I do have sensitive skin without it being oily, I'm sure this plays some part in it.

Yeah, I'm sure that the dryness will subside, as Differin is actually fairly gentle, and the difference between the cream and the gel is that the cream is for people with even more sensitive skin, so your skin is just adjusting to the Differin, and once it does, the dryness will go away.. Besides, as you said, "no new acne"!! How exciting, congratulations!!--=Infinity p.s. Tell me about your antibiotics.. How long is your course supposed to run before your antibiotics stop? How long did it take before you saw results with them? Did you see any side effects? Did you start off with an "initial dose" (usually double the maintenace dose) and then begin a maintenance dose? Thanks..

I used to take erythramycin (sp) for a year 250 mg and it cleared up my acne within the first month with upset stomach as side effects, but eventually it stopped working, my derm. now put me on the tetracyclin 500mg 1x a day, I've only been on it for 3.5 weeks, it seemed to clear up my back acne pretty quickly, I am on the differin cream so I don't know if my face is doing so good because of the cream or the antibiotic. Tetracyclin does cause stomach upset if you take it on a full stomach, but nothing like the erythramycin, I use to get severe stomach cramping, loose bowels (not to be gross), but all the sympton subsided after 1 month of taking it. With the tetracyclin I have not had a problem except for getting a yeast infection which is very common for antibiotic users. I'm not sure how long this course of antibiotics will take I do not have a Derm. appt. until april. I will know then. As far as I know it will continue as long as it works.Hope info helps. AMY

Wow, a whole sample tube! That is alot! How long have you been using it? I do have sensitive skin, so I only use a small amount, and my skin is burning as we speak! My derm told me as did the differin pamphlet she gave me, that over use of the product will not make acne go away any quicker it will more than likely over dry your skin and be counter productive. I have only been on it for 4 weeks and like I said have pretty sensitve non oily skin. Others have posted on the board that they use more than a pea sized amount and it is o.k. for them. I guess everybody is different. I don't know if age, type of skin ect have anything to do with it. Hope all goes well for you.......
