Did the doctor say it was okay to take it while pregnant? I'm sure if your doc is okay with it it's perfectly okay!

My dx put me on the Macrobid also when I had my mild bladder infection. It must be allright although not great. I will confess though; I never took it! I know but she said it was mild and I just like you did not want to take any meds especially an antibiotic thats nasty like Macrobid. I should not have taken any chances but I drank alot of water and stayed on a good healthy diet and went to the loo whenever I had the urge instead of waiting. I came back 2-3 weeks later and had another culture done and it showed negative for any bacteria. I would make sure you think about what your doing before you do something like I did b/c it could have turned out bad.

Good Luck

Serena

The doctor did say it was ok.I wen't on to search on the web and there is contradictions. He also had said that is what they prescribe to women if they are pregnant. If i don't take it i increase the risk of premature birth or even miscarriage. They say you have to be careful when getting infections when you are pregnant. This is a tough situation for me.I'd rather take a natural approach which is safer. No drug is really safe taking while pregnant.I'm suppose to take 2 a day and they are 100mg a pill.I really need to pray about this.Thank you ladies for your replies.

My husband and I are trying to conceive(I am 37 He is 34),,I was put on Macrobid prophylactally...(when needed_)I got UTi's and they finally went away.. I took these 1 before or after having sex..(not really romantic lol but ..)and my urologist said they were SAFE before and during a pregnancy..if i were to get pregnant...it would be perfectly safe..I was only on 100 mgs..too... but now I dont even take them. The UTis i was getting are gone.....

I called the hospital where i got the urine test and blood count and asked them what bacteria was in my urine and how is my blood count.A different doctor called me back and said my blood count was good and there is no growth in my urine and so there is no infection,so he told me i don't have to take anymore.I was misdiagnosed.I also doing a search on the net for the macrobid and there is contradictions and is not recommended for infants. There is a risk of causing problems.Doctors don't always tell you everything. There is always a risk taking any kind of drug while pregnant or nursing.A friend of mind told me today when she was pregnant for one her children the doctor put her on an antibiotic and the baby was born with a birth defect. We always need to search things ourselves and ask questions.I'm glad i called back the hospital.

My urologist said it was ok for MAcrobid phrphylactically during pregnancy.(if u had a Uti) or(if i were to become preg)...Now i question him...if u are saying it is not safe! Scary when u think u put ur dr. in ur hands..............ampicillin might not be for eveyone though..they see what u are reactive and susceptible to ..I thought they test u to see which one is for u... I wont be taking macrobid anymore though.........................thank u all!
