Has anyone had the Papaya enzyme disc injection (chymopain for intradiscal injection) for herniated lumbar intervertebra disc, buldging disc or degenerated disc disease? What was the result? Length of healing? If in Massachusetts, who was the doctor? My husband had 3 surgies on one dics. The first 2 failed due to cutting off the bulge and hernia which resulted in increased pain each time due to the decrease in disc height and spacing which puts pressure on the nerves. Epidurals failed to work. The 3rd surgery was a fusion with the titanium screw and bone graft, which worked but some lack of motion in that area. Now the above disc is herniated and bulging. He does not want to go through any more surgeries. Any other alternative remedies? (accupuncture didn't work).

Hi, I had the Chymo injection done in 1984. I had a very rocky time after having it done. I was alergic to it and it caused me sever pain. The musle spasams were unbelievable, and lasted for most of a year. The bad part...It did not work and now I have so much scar tissue that it is causing more problems then I had. I have since had a lamenectomy, a fusion, many many epidural/Caudle Blocks and Facet joint blocks. I have recently had the Spinal cord stimulator inplanted. I have had some releife from that. Sorry I couldnt paint a prettier picture then that but I know you want to hear the truth. mema

Memagayle, Thanks for the info. I've read that the injection was used alot back then and then faded away and now is being used again with about an 80% success rate. One doctor told my husband that there is a lot of pain if the stuff leaks out. The hard part is hearing from people on wether it helped or not. By what doctor and where. Thanks for the info.

Hello,I have inquired about the procedure after reading about it awhile back..I had asked my MD about it and he said that there was possitive results from it but there was also problems that arose and the FDA put a damper on it..I don't remenber the exact problems but you should first see if there is anyone who does it and if so how SAFE is it..Good Luck...
