I have had 11 medical microdermabrasions to help w/ my acne & old chicken pox scars and I have seen a signifigant improvement (I'd BETTER at $125 a pop) but I am interested in the sailine injections for the bigger ones on my cheeks. Anybody have any info/experiences to share, that would be great!

Hello Pretty, I have had 4 saline injections done in the past two months. It is fairly cheap (just 90 bucks per). The only downside is that it leaves little red marks on your face where the needle was injected, those last anywhere from just 2 days to 1 week, depending on how bad they are. Now, for the good news. . .it has been absolutely amazing as far as helping the scars. Amazing. I would say my scars are probably 60 percent better already, and I still have 2 more sessions. It probably improves scarring about 15 percent each time. I tried 3 microdermabrasions and saw less success with those than with 1 saline injection. I have three pretty deep scars on my cheeks, that have improved 60 percent and aren't that deep anymore. The smaller scars, however, have completely disappeared. I kid you not, 100 percent gone. Other than those three, now very small, scars on my cheeks, my skin is perfect as far as scarring goes. I can't wait to go in for the last two treatments, hopefully the other scars will vanish too. I am also taking 6 grams of B5 per day, using Retin-A Micro every night before bed, and using Sage facial shampoo and corrective grains twice a day. My skin looks better than it has in ten years thanks to all of these things. The B5 keeps the acne away, the Retin-A Micro also helps with the zits and to remove some red marks, and the Sage leaves my skin feeling silky smooth. I would recommend all three of those products to everyone, they are working great for me so far. And Pretty, the saline injections have been wonderful. . .I don't know if you live in the LA area or not, but if you do, definitely call and set up a consultation with Dr. Sire. Each time I go, my face is injected approximately 40-50 times, and it is slightly painful, but it's tolerable if you get the numbing cream, and definitely worth the minor discomfort. Sorry for the novel I seem to have written, but hopefully this helps you out. Also, check out the Post titled "Finally REAL help for indents and scars." There's about 115 posts total, and it updates the progress of a few people who have also tried the saline injections. Lot of helpful info in that post.

Good luck to you, and hopefully you can get this procedure done in the near future.

Randy

Thanks for all of the info but how long will the injections last? Do you have to go back every few years or so fo more? Did you have this done in a plastic surgeon's offic or through a dermatologist?

pretty_face, have a look at the post mentioned above (real help for indents and scars), and you'll see that there is very little known about this process. Only one doctor in the US is performing this procedure (Dr Sire) and only a handful of people have had the treatment performed. I think that it is been said that it is a long term solution.

Hello pretty, I believe that badskin is right, I think that only Dr. Sire here in LA is performing this right now, although there has been some mention of the doctor making a pamphlet explaining all about the procedure. Hopefully he will get that done pretty soon, and more physicians will be able to perform this. As far as the long term effects, I was told that they would be permanent. We'll see about that, hopefully they will be, but I kinda have my doubts.

I went to the derm today with 2 purposes in mind. First I needed to get a refill of my Spironolactone and second I wanted to convince him to give me saline injections in 2 scars between my eyes as a trial.

My derm had never heard of saline injections for scarring. He referred me to a plastic surgeon.

I told my derm that he and I both knew that the plastic surgeon would not give me saline injections but would instead try to offer me expensive laser surgery. I explained that I had already had 2 dermabrasions, microdermabrasions and collegen injections and I did not want laser surgery.

My derm agreed that this was probably true. He then said that he would call the plastic surgeon himself and told me to call him in a couple of weeks.

When I got home this evening, my derm left me a voice mail telling me he had called the plastic surgeon and that the saline injections were "not appropriate" for scarring.

Being that I'm not a person to give up easily, I now am moving to plan b - call the doctor in CA that originated this procedure and see if he will contact my derm or plan c - get a hold of a fine guage needle and try the injections myself.

I don't know why I must continually struggle with docs (this is not the first time) for something that might help me. It's just not right.

Hi RPM

Its so great to hear about the great results you are getting. I'm 20 years old and already have some scars on my cheeks. You mentioned that your small scars are pretty much completely gone. What kind of scars were those exactly? I have a lot of small scars along with a couple indented ones. The small scars I hate however - they look like big pores (but they're not deep). Are these the type that have nearly disappeared from your face?

Thanks for your positive posts.

Yeah, I was wondering the same about the microdermabrasion - what kind of scarring did you/do you have? I'm thinking of going in for a number of microderm treatments but before spending some serious cash I'd like to know about other peoples experiences. Also, has anyone had photorejuvination to help with hyperpigmentation? Thanks for any input!

I am undergoing a series of microdermabrasions and it does help in hyperpigmentation and slight, not pitted scars. It gives your skin a healthy glow and makes it super soft to the touch.
They will give you Rx cremes if you have it done by a doctor to give you an exremely great overall result.

I tried Microdermabrasion (6 visits/$600) in an effort to remove acne scarring. Unfortunately, it was a waste of money. However, it did improve the pigmentation a bit but did NOTHING for reducing scars.
