I went in today for my first ClearLight treatment. It was kinda cool. A machine with lights lowers over your face. It felt like a tanning bed made for you face. I was under the lights for 17 minutes (you have to wear gogles). The machine talks to you and tells you how many minutes are left and also tells you to turn your face forward then to the right and then to the left. The good thing about ClearLight is that it isn't damaging to your skin like tanning beds or the sun. The nurse told me that I didn't have to take minocycline or use Differin if I didn't want to. She said to come in two times a week for four weeks and that I should be clear by week four! She also said that it would help my scars also. Sounds good to me!!!I have my second appointment on Friday. IP: Logged |

julie, did you have this done at the derma,if not where? Did you have it done primarily to clear up your acne? What kind of scars do you have? IP: Logged |

Hey Julie. Can you please let me know where you are from and where you are getting it done? I would like to do it but, I am having a problem when trying to search for a place in LA. Thanks! IP: Logged |

KCLee-I had it done in Newport Beach, Ca(Dr. Peter Helton). The nurse said that only a few doctors in Southern Cal have it. I'm not sure if it was you who talked about Dr. Sire (office in Fullerton) but I know that he has the ClearLight machine too. ClearLight emits high density light that clears up acne. I went to a dermotologist, but the nurse performed the treatment. I have mild/moderate acne with a few red scars and also indented scars from picking at my zits. Supposedly, ClearLight will help that also. I really think that this is going to clear up my skin. I have tried everything! The nurse said that so many people have been waiting for the FDA to approve this because it works so well. IP: Logged |

Has anyone done the Blue Peel treatment? I've been debating whether to get it done or not. My main concern is to get rid of these red marks and I expect results with the treatment being $500. IP: Logged |

Forgot to say that it cost $100 per treatment, which seems like a lot, but in my opinion I would pay any price for clear skin. The nurse said it takes about four weeks to get clear skin My insurance didn't cover it! IP: Logged |

The first 50 patients get a discount since the ClearLight machine is new. I would make an appointment as soon as you can. This doctor's office was REALLY nice too (probabaly because Newport Beach is such a nice and expensive area). [This message has been edited by moderator2 (edited 10-23-2002).] IP: Logged |

So Clear Light is not yet approved by the FDA? Are there side effects? What does the skin look like after the procedure? IP: Logged |

ClearLight IS FDA approved. It was approved in August. There are no side effects. After the treatment I was a little pink for about 15 minutes. IP: Logged |

F.Y.I. I did a search and got this from a website. Note that if it dosen't start to work after a number of sessions you should stop and not waste your money!! "The ClearLight system doesn't work on severe acne or mild cases of pimples but works only on inflammatory acne, which is caused by bacteria, said Neil Ogden, FDA's director of general-surgery devices. The treatment consisted of eight twice-a-week, 15-minute light sessions. Not everyone responded. If the acne does not seem better after two or three sessions, there's only a 10 percent chance it will respond to the treatment at all, Ogden said. About half of the patients who finished all eight treatments saw at least 50 percent decreases in the number of pimples, he said". IP: Logged |

clearLight treatment has been used Europe for quite some time now. It's actually a very popular method for treating acne and is widely advertised here. It has no side effects, no down time and from what ive heard, is pretty effective. I am not talking from experience tho as i've never had it done. But it is completely safe. Never heard any horror stories about it at all. IP: Logged |

Somebody just mentioned the, Verilux HappySkin Acne Light on another thread. It is a light that kills acne bacteria, etc....You buy the lamp and do it at home. Does anyone know if this is something like the ClearLight procedure, only you do it at home? IP: Logged |

Jani, Did you get any replys regarding the Verilux Happy Skin Light System? I know Dermalux also makes a similar system. Does anyone have experience with these? IP: Logged |

I was also wondering if it's just supposed to clear you up temporarily, or do you mean that after the treatment the breakouts will be less severe? It seems like it will kill the bacteria while being treated, but what's to stop it from coming back? IP: Logged |

Verilux is offering a money back guarantee for the "happyskin" light. If after using it for 12 weeks and you're not satisfied you can send it back and get your money back. That seems kind of impressive. I imagine you'd have to buy it from them for the guarantee, but it's the same price on their site as it is on others. Has anyone tried this thing? IP: Logged |

I haven't tried Verilux, but I bought a much brighter GE Industrial blue light online to use at home. I've used it for about a month now and I'm VERY impressed with the results. It's eliminated all but the most mild acne bumps, and I've been plauged with bad back acne for years. The only annoying thing is you really have to use it at least every other day for it to be effective (about 15 minutes per treatment). I stopped using it for about a week and had a reccurance (albeit mild), although that at least indicates it's working. I should mention that I'm still using both Salycilic Acid (2%) and Benzoly Peroxide (10%) Wash when I shower. These alone never achieved the results I've had when combined with the light. The Clear Light treatment sounds great and suppsosedly lasts longer, but it's WAY too expensive for my budget. $800 for 6 months of clear skin is MUCH too high a price when someone with moderate acne can do it at home for the cost of one of these bulbs (around $70). Most insurance carriers don't cover Clear Light (to my knowledge). Does anyone know about NLight treatment for acne scarring? (mainly used for wrinkle removal in the States). IP: Logged |
