I am picking up my Retin-A script tomorrow but I was wondering if Mederma works good for scars? I would like to find out what the best OTC scar treatments are??????????????? IP: Logged |

Actually, Retin-A works to make your scars look better. It takes a while, but it is like a gradual skin peel. Your skin will be dry and peel, but it will make the tone and scars look better in the end. Personally, I don't have any experience with Mederma, but other people on here have used it, and said it doesn't work. Do a search for mederma/ acne scars on this site. IP: Logged |

Retin A is a prescription, you need to see your doctor to get it. I got it from mine and used it for twelve weeks and it only made my acne worse. It made my skin really dry too. IP: Logged |

I've tried Mederma on 2 types of scars for around 3 months: 1) Acne scars - might have minimally faded them, but then again it could've just been my body healing over time. 2) Raised scar on my arm - I've had this scar for years, and the Mederma lowered it to skin level and has helped to fade it. Others may have different results, but I'm guessing that Mederma is most beneficial for raised scars that are the result of surgery or deep cuts. IP: Logged |

My scars have had a fairly good response to C-5 Serum from University Medical. You can get a small bottle for $15 at many convenience stores. IP: Logged |

my mom said that she has retin-a , when i looked at the tube it said " Tretinoin " with like 0.1% tretinoin or something like that, but it was called Tretinoin for sure. either my mom cant read labels and is very stupid or this is what retin-a is called...???????? IP: Logged |

OMG!!! Your mom is certainly not stupid! Tretinoin is just a generic name for Retin-A and Renova. The names Tretinoin and Retin-A are used interchangeably. They are one and the same thing. IP: Logged |

I read three acne boards and nobody has ever got any improvement on their scars from Merderma. IP: Logged |

It seems funny to me that they suggest mederma for acne scars. It should help raised ones but not pits or shallow scars. It is actually an onion extract lotion that helps to decrease collagen build up and production. If you put it on raised scars it helps to soften and flatten them. So i found that mederma on indented acne scars actually makes them worse. IP: Logged |

Hi All, I was reading through this quickly and thought I'd share my positive experiences. I'm a bit older and had acne back when there was nothing for it. I suffered with crappy skin and scars for years! very sad. however after finally visiting a dermatoligist I had a chemical peel- painful and I don't reccomend. However a few years later I had a laser peel. WOW! my scars are all but gone! Not cheap but extremely effective. Highley recommended. Also look into parisienne peels etc. which are tiny particles "sand blasting" your skin and also at the same time suction is applied. This completely gets rid of blackheads for a while( nice right around that time of month) and over time minimizes and eliminates scarring. Neostrata has excellent topical treatments that help acne and blackheads. Some of these things are pricey, but when you add up all the crap from the drugstores.... Well I'm 40 and get mistaken for in my 20's all the time!!! IP: Logged |

What is a laser PEEL? I've heard of laser surgery, but not laser peels. ~Emma IP: Logged |
