Hi, I haven't posted on this website in years. My acne is under control now thanks to the birth control pill. When I get pimples around TOM, glycolic acid helps. Anyway, after reading on this website and others about skin needling, I just tried it on myself a little while ago. I have been thinking about trying it since I first heard about it, but I guess I was too chicken. I really don't have anywhere to go to have it done professionally, so I'm the type to take matters into my own hands. When you have acne scars, you'll do crazy things, I guess. I have some of the dented kind, some are kind of rolling, maybe some tiny ice picks too. They don't look horrible, but they give my skin a bad texture and non-smooth look. I've lived with them long enough. I've tried glycolic acid peels and some microdermabrasion, but they don't give the results I want. Then I heard about this skin needling, and if I do it on myself, it's free, and I'm sick to death of the acne scars, so I just went for it. I'll just describe what I did, but if you do the same, it's at your own risk !!! I washed my face, sterilized a tiny needle. Held the area I was going to work on tightly and just started poking it with the needle. It was so weird to hear the popping of the scar tissue. Really weird. It actually didn't hurt too much, so I didn't need to use the topical pain cream I had. I just kept poking all over the scar with the needle until there was no more popping. The scar would fill with blood, but it's not like I had it running down my face. I probably did a total of 12 scars. I also poked around larger areas, but wasn't too precise with that. I plan to repeat this in a month. I dabbed the areas with alcohol and then spread on a thin layer of Vaseline. I'm supposed to keep the places covered with vaseline for a few days. The area is now quite pink and tingles a little. There are little scabs everywhere from the needling. I will have to cover these places up as well as I can or stay home a few days I guess. There is supposed to be swelling too, which isn't what the final result will be. From what I've read, it works like this: the needling breaks up the scar tissue underneath the skin. The scar tissue has been bound down, and the needling releases it. New collagen will form after the needling, and thicken and raise the area. I'll post my results as I see them. HTH. IP: Logged |

What are you going to do if you should happen to have to leave the house? I bet your a pretty site !lol I hope everything heals right and the results are good.I'm trying to get rid of a long red flat scar from busting my face open on the right side of my face.Am using Copper peptide serum.Do you know of anything else that might help?I also have a HUGE white round indented chicken pox scar on my left side of my forehead so now I'm screwed as to which way I can wear my hair. I've had that chicken pox scar all my life.I don't know what to do for it .Luckily I have never gotten any indented acne scars ,just acne medication burns.[This message has been edited by dsheldon3 (edited 01-31-2003).] IP: Logged |

Wow, I didn't really think anybody would remember me here. That's kinda neat. Well, since I washed my face and applied Neosporin, most of the little scabs have come off. The skin underneath where the scars were is pink. Oh, about the needle - I bought a pack of craft needles at Walmart - it has all kinds of needles and sizes. I used the quilting needle, I THINK. I know it was one of the smallest ones. [This message has been edited by PW (edited 01-31-2003).] IP: Logged |

I have never heard about poking your scars with needles but it sounds kinda neat. I have a couple scars on my face (mostly from the chicken pox) and although they don't bother me it sounds like interesting. Oh yes more info please...if you can think of anything else...and let us know your results too. Thanks! IP: Logged |

My name is Heather. I was contacted by someone interested in needling & I'm researching the information. I happen to do permanent make up and have had some experience in working with scarring. I would appreciate details on the needling and who did them for you. How your healing process went and what ointments worked in healing. I've read Dr. F's info on needling and I think it sounds like it could be promising. If any of you have questions that I could answer - please ask. Scars do break up when tattooed through. I've done lots of work on mastectomy patients in repigmenting the areolas. There is a lot of scar tissue involved. Thank you, Heather IP: Logged |

Hi Heather, I had a friend of mine who is a tattoo artist do an "experiment" on one of my scars. He held the skin taught and needled the scar (indentation) only. There was some pinpoint bleeding, and not much pain. He told me to keep a very thin layer of A&D ointment on the scar for a few days. It took a while to see improvement. There are a lot of sites out there that delve into this but we are not permitted to post links here. IP: Logged |

Hey there Heather and OursFan, I was jus wondering Heather if any permanent makeup artist can do this or do they have to be professionally trained. I recectly have made an appt for a consultation in about a couple of weeks to see if I can have the skin needling done on my face. I have a pretty good amount of pitted scars mainly along my temples and cheeks which make me very self conscious of my self when I go out in public and especially when I go clubbing with friends and you get hit with the lights from above making you look horrible. I tried to explain the procedure to the first place I called and the lady never knew what I was talking about when I asked about inkless tattooing. But luckily the second place I called the lady knew what i was looking for an helped me set up the appt...but still a bit nervous to presue it. Ours-is the A&D ointment a triple antibiotic like neosporin ointment? Thanks. IP: Logged |

A&D ointment is vitamin A and vitamin D in a petroleum jelly (vaseline-like) substance. no antibiotics that I know of. IP: Logged |
