Scalp acne....Yes I had that for a while. It could a staph infection or foliculitis. Try not to pick.....at night put clearacil on the bumps. And yes...go ahead and try using something like Selson Blue, Head and Shoulders or Neutragena T Gel. It may provide some relief. They are all formulated to regulate skin cell turnover (the cause of seborrhea). IP: Logged |

Try Head and Shoulders - it should help, and I have also noticed that the acne on my back and chest cleared up just from it washing over my body. I have heard that some people even wash their face with it. It has zinc and other anti-bacterial properties. IP: Logged |

You certainly aren't the only one. My grandson has scalp acne terribly bad. He gets these big cysts and nodules. A plastic surgeon removed one and it made a really big, bad scar on his head. I thought plastic surgeon meant it wouldn't be a scar. We have been to 3 different dermatologists and none of them know anything that can cure it. One of them gave him bactrim which kept it under control but he wouldn't let him keep taking it. He gets steroid shots in them and they go down. I hope you get yours under control. IP: Logged |

New to the board. Trying to find people with the same problem I have and it seems I have. I have severe scalp acne and it sucks. It sounds like I am in the same boat as Tara's grandson. I went to a hospital in North Carolina, Bowman-Grey I believe. Can't remember because it has been over abou 7 years ago. I am about to make another appointment because my condition has not gotten any better. To the point: They cut out a small sample of one of my bumps and ran their test on it and identified any medicine(s) that would cure my problem. Only one medicine at the time came up. The name of htat medicine, I can't remember. (I am going to check into this this week though). I was on the medicine for a week and then I had to stop after my blood test came back unacceptable. The stuff was worked and it was hard to stop taking it because I knew that it was my only hope besides Accutane of course. Now: I get many small bumps, but I have a few large cyst like bumps that come and go. Usually, a small dose of acutane does the trick. I can never wear hats because the next day I will be broke out severely. They hurt so bad sometimes I can't lay my head on a pillow. Sucks! Go to your derm, ask that that take a sample and run a test on it to see what is going on. My main derm. in Knoxville did this and they found nothing. Bowman-Grey doctor did it and found the answer. They told me it would go away with age. They are wrong and I am going to go back and see them again since they are the only ones to ever figure out what exactly is going on. ERic IP: Logged |
