Can anyone suggest something for Ice-Pick Acne Scars. I have tried micro-dermabrasion and it didn't do much. Right now I'm using Retin-A. Is this enough or can someone suggest something else. I don't really have the time or money to do laser surgery. Please Help! Thanks! IP: Logged |

retin-A really helps your scars look less noticeable. I use it, and love it. It takes a while, and you have to wear sunscreen, but it's worth it. I'm not saying you won't have scars, but they'll look better. Icepicks are the hardest to get rid of--laser isn't effective in icepicks, really, nothing will get rid of them. I did hear fat injections, or collagen help. I got duped into having microdermabrasiontoo--what a scam IP: Logged |

I almost did the microdermabrasion too, just because the doc had a pretty good slide show to show me of before and after pics and there was little to no down time as it was a series of sessions done across a few months. I guess I'm happy I didn't go through with it -- but it did look pretty good. I thought the fact they take a little off every 2 weeks over 6 months or something would mean I would reduce the risk of something more radical scarring me even worse. That's the problem with deep scars. You need something far more aggressive but with that comes high risk of worse scarring. They notice, I seem, reluctant to do patch testing too. The ones I found willing to do patch testing for more aggressive resurfacing or peels (they discouraged it because the equipment fee is the same for just the forehead for example, or the whole face) but also it would mean I'd risk uneven skin tone. I wanted to have a small like 2x2 or 2x3 area done with something aggressive, something around temple area or cheek area maybe....to see how I responded. At least if I got worse scarring it would be localized. I've just heard some bad horror stories. True though, for ice pick scars you need something far more aggressive than a topical cream. Retin-A will help overall skin tone, so will glycolic acid, but it won't get rid of the deep ones. Yumi posted about needling, which sounds good and theoretically makes a lot of sense too (for deep scars). ------------------ Thoughts don't make us who we are -- Actions do. IP: Logged |
