Hey everyone, I'm new here, and just wanted to share with everyone what acne treatment i have been using that has worked for me. First off, I'd like to say that like most of you here, i had bad acne for years. I have spent thousands and thousands of dollars on acne creams and medications, and honestly... i have bought every wash, cleanser, cream that has ever been available. I used to walk into a drug store and easily drop $200 bucks a week. I have tried many antibiotics, but nothing worked to the point where i was 100% happy with my appearance. All the creams and crap the doctors give you never really seemed to help my zits either.
My acne treatement involves cleaning my skin with SpectroDerm wash (non-scented) morning and before bed, This works excellent because it contains no harsh chemicals that will irrate your skin. people are misled into thinking that washes and zit creams must contain benzol peroxide, or other fancy ingredients to work. SpectroDerm works by helping to maintain the normal PH of the skin. Zits occur when the normal PH of the skin is thrown off balance, e.g. from oil, dryness etc. Next I use TeaTree Oil. This works amazingly! I use this at night before I go to bed if I have a zit comming or one has broken out and 9/10times it's gone by morning. After showering I use Cetaphil as a quick moisturizer (mildly rubed into my face). This also contains no chemicals or alcohol(which is reckless to the skin on the face). Its non-greasy. Then I rub in Aloe Vera gel. Fruit of the earth is the best 100% clear gel. I rub that in and wipe the excess off with a kleenex. I then put my makeup on (no special kind) I just use a touch up stick. This sounds too simple to work i know, but this combination has helped clear mine up 99.9%. My sister also uses this as well as my cousins and they have all had excellent results. You also might want to consider changing your pillow case on a regular basis as it traps oils from your hair which then are transferred to your face while your sleeping. Also, your pets can give you zits (don't laugh, its true). Cuddling your pets by putting your face to their fur, or kissing them on their fur will def. give you zits!) also, use a clean towel EVERYDAY. yeah, your laundry will add up but this helps. And don't towel dry your face, use a kleenex or let it air dry after showering. For females, switch to Marvelon birth control pills. They are perscribed to help acne. As for shampoo and conditioner...that also plays a role on how oily your hair will be which can cause zits on the forehead. I use Dove shampoo /conditioner and shower daily!
Well, i really do hope this helps. The tea tree oil is the biggest life saver for acne i have ever tried. This combination has worked for me for over 3yrs now. I have no complaints anymore.
Take care everyone.
Julie

Hi Julie and thank you for sharing. You mentioned that you suffered with acne for years as many of us have here. I'm one of the older ones here in the bunch(I'm 41) and your stories of you spending a fortune in the drugstore really hit home for me.

My question is what you think the Spectroderm is doing for you that the other cleansers did not do? (I too don't know where to find it). And for goodness sake will someone PLEASE explain why this Aloe Vera is so beneficial? And lastly what is tea tree oil doing for you Julie? I'm sharing in your joy of being clear, and thanks.

I also use the 100% Aloe Vera Gel (Fruit of the Earth).. still waiting for the results though. (been about 9-10 days). Basically Aloe Vera has Vitamins A, C, B(several), Zinc, Copper... and lots of detoxifiers.. so its an all-round good thign for your system. (I've jsut started to drink the juice instead of taking all these vitamin supplements... hopefully it'll show some results soon)

For the poster: How long did it take to see results with that routine? It seems like Cetaphil is pretty popular on this board, is it found in any grocery store?

Congratulations too! Hope you stay clear. Btw, did you have body acne? It seems like I am the only one siffering with this stuff .

i'm so glad you found something that's working for you! Thanks for taking the time to make this long post. I agree that the best solutions are usually quite simple.
DeeDee, aloe vera is one of nature's best anti-inflammatory, healing agents. Growing up, we had a big aloe plant, and for cuts and burns my mom would snip a piece and rub the exposed end on the wound...and she's an experienced and seasoned nurse! It's very soothing and healing, and just altogether good for you.

ok ... what gives here with the sales comment? I'm new here, and was under the understanding that this website was for helping people. I was simply trying to help by offering others some advice on what is working for me. I am in no way trying to sell any products here...it is quite the opposite actually, i'm advising people that you do not need to spend big bucks on acne products. You my friend have certainly put a damper on the "good" of me posting here! I don't know if your having a bad day because of your zits or what, but I thought this was a very positive message board until i seen your comment!

I think you contributed a lot dimples, please don't stop posting because of a wierd comment... I have no idea where that person was coming from, everybody mentions product names in their posts... I was very confused when I saw it too.

I am espically encouraged by the fact that you say tea tree oil works for you. I just bought some, and use it on one pimple, but im not sure if I am doing it right... do I just put it on individual zits or rub it all over? Do you wash it off or just let it soak in? I put it on with a q-tip, what do you use?

For the tea-tree question i thought id answer. The most common way i've seen it used is one drop on each pimple twice a day.

Hope this helps.

Yeah, don't be discouraged dimples... I appreciate the post... as a matter of fact I bought some spectroderm today and have begun to use my tea tree oil again.

Thanks for the post.

Nice post dimples, keep it up

And no I Don't think you're trying to sell anything, usually that kinda thing is easy to spot straight away. But if you didn't include any brand names then your post would seem a bit worthless really so forget the unthoughtful individual who decided to know your post.

Without brand names your post would go something like:

"hey, I use a cleanser morning and night, some aloe gel stuff, a bit of the ol' moisturiser for kicks, etc etc etc."

Chris. (almost clear now )

Yeah, I've seen my doctor use Spectro Gel but not Spectro Derm so its a change, albeit a small one.

I purchased my Spectro Derm at Shoppers Drug Mart in Alberta Canada.

Hey guys,
DeeDeewith3 - yu asked what is spectro derm doing for me that other cleansers didnt?
I found other cleansers didnt have the proper pH that is helpful in clearing up acne.Maintaining what is called the "acid mantle" of skin is important. Skin is on the acidic side, so using products that have the right pH balance (5.5 or less) is important. Neutragena for example has a higher pH level than 5.5, and causes more acne in most people.

Maintaining the proper pH level of skin preserves this acid mantle which helps normal skin flora/bacteria fight off bad acne bacteria. Soaps are too caustic (have a higher pH) and disrupts this barrier. Spectro Derm states on the back of the bottle that it has virtually the same pH as your skin.

Sammypie-you asked about teatree oil.
I use Thrusdays' Plantation teatree oil. When i first started using it, it made my skin very dry and red. I had to dilute it 50/50with water for the first few months. I now use it full strength, and apply it with a q-tip as well. I usually just dab the pimple and around it a few times before bed.

I buy my spectro derm either at shopper's drugmart, or walmart pharmacy. I'm from ontario canada, so i'm really not sure which stores carry it in the states or other parts of canada.

Take care guys.

Are you referring to Cetaphil moisturizer or the cleanser?? I find the moisturizer WAY too greasy.
OH and where do you find the teatree oil you use?
Thanks!

Hey Belle975, I agree, the cetaphil moisturizer does leave your skin feeling quite greasy and shiny. I don't use the moisturizer, I use the cleanser as a moisturizer which has worked great for me.
As for the tea tree oil, I usually buy it from a health foods store, its called Aura Cacia Tea Tree 100%pure. Costs about $11 canadian for a 15ml bottle. I'm currently using Spring Valley Tea Tree Oil 100%pure that I picked up at walmart (the health store was outta my regualar brand), and it seems to be working jsut as well. Hope this helps

Hey guys,
That sucks that you guys from the US cannot buy spectro derm right off the shelf. I've used it for years, and have never had to go see a derm for it. For the person who asked about cetaphil being the same as spectro derm...in my opinion not exactly. (mind you every one is different). I find that spectro derm closes your pores up and leaves your skin looking tigher and feeling cleaner compared to cetaphil. I did however use cetaphil for 3weeks when my face got blistered up from a sun burn and the doctor told me to use nothing buy cetaphil, it didnt make my face break out, but iwas not as satisfied with it as i was spectro derm.
I'm pretty sure i saw it online somewhere to buy, unfortunately, i forget where. (i will look into it though and see if i can find the site again for you).
I dont' recall a huge breakout when i first started using it, but then again my face was pretty bad at the time and i doubt i would have even noticed. I still get the odd zit (mainly menstral related), but other than that my skin is next thing to flawless. I agree that ph balancing is the way to go, by going this route it eliminates dryness, oily skin, and evens out your complexion amoungs other things.
I will check again, and see what i can find for buying spectro derm online.
~hope this helps a little.
