When i first when to the dermotologist and told him about my blackhead problem, he said that those weren't blackheads on my nose, i just had big pores.

So whatever, i just ended up going to another derm.

So i told the other derm the same thing, and she said i have big pores too. But then i asked why does stuff come out when i squeeze it and she said that's supposed to happen.

My problem is that i still have big black dots on my nose that have been there forever and i can't get rid of them. Does anyone else have the same problem?

I can't say I do, but if your looking for a solution ask your derm. I've think I've seen people with your case, so don't feel alone with that problem. It's hardly anything if thats all you have. Good luck anyway

I have the exact same thing. Every pore on my nose is filled with blackheads and on my cheeks near my nose I have large pores. I also have really, really, really oily skin which causes the pores to be larger because the pores have to expand to get all the oil out. Accutane temorarily solved the problem, but now, almost a yr after I stopped taking Accutane, I am back to normal. Blackheads occur when your pores get clogged with dead skin cells or other things. There are a lot of reasons and things you can do, but my blackhead/large pore problem is a lot worse than normal people and I am still trying to find something that will internally stop them.

I just want to say that from what I read, blackheads are not caused by the pores being clogged with dead skin cells. The oil gland narrows because of hormones and the oil gland clogs due to the narrowing not because of dirt. That is why skin cleaners and infomercial products do not cure acne. Acne starts deep beneath the skin surface. Can anyone confirm or deny this?

I have the same problem as well. My nose has hundreds of pores that are filled. My cheeks, forehead, and chin, are also affected by blackheads. I usually give myself facials but again this is only temporary and since I have so many it's impossible to get them all out. I think one way to lesson the "blackhead" part of it is to get consistent facials and then peels or some sort of microdermabrasion. I haven't been to the dermatologists office in years so I'm not sure about the procedures that are out there. My pimples are under control now but its the blackheads that really bother me now. I think I'll make an appointment to go to see my derm again.

Does Retin A work for blackheads? I used to use the stuff but I can't remember if it had any affect on my pores.

i don't know if retin A works..but i don't have what the doc would call blackheads...they're just pores filled with garbage.

and it's probably hereditary on my part because my parents have big pores and "blackheads".

I always thought large pores filled with stuff
were blackheads? The term blackheads is given because once air gets to the stuff that gets in the pores it turns black. I'm confused now...??

I have this same problem. Try using Queen Helene's mint julep mask where your pores are big and clogged. It really helps get the stuff out and shrink them. Of course, it isn't permanent but I apply it once every couple of days and it really seems to help.

um..i think that a blackhead is when you have too much sebum (oil) and then it goes to the surface and forms hard dark plugs.
i don't know..but 2 of the derms i had told me i didn't have blackheads, just big pores with "stuff" in it.

and i've tried Queen Helene's mask, my skin is too sensitive for that. It makes me red and it hurts.

I seem to be in the same boat as many of you... I have hundreds of deep embedded black marks on my nose and beside my nose on either side. They are black, but they arnt anything you can use a needle and get out. It looks like they are covered by a couple layers of skin. My nose is bumpy and when you look closely the dots become very noticeable. Im trying tee tree oil now and sometimes I see the plugs from the pores come out... but the blackness hasnt faded yet.

Good luck to you guys, keep us informed if something works. I've used the julep mask a couple times and it felt pretty good but I didnt notice any change in my blackheads.

I have the EXACT same problem. My nose is completely covered in blackheads and I can squeeze til the cows come home and still they're there. It's soooo irritating. Especially as the rest of my face is usually clear now.

Also, I don't know where you all live, but here in England, when it's cold outside my nose goes so red! I think it's because of the blackheads but I'm not sure. I just wish I could get rid of them. Any ideas?

Egads, I had a long reply and lost it...
Anyway, I have the same skin type, and what helps me are BHA (beta hydroxy acid/salicylic acid) products in conjunction with extractions (I do extractions at home using a skincare tool).
It helps, but doesn't get rid of them 100%. Maybe 50%.
But you have to be vigilant and use BHAs regularly to keep benefitting. Not sure if I'm allowed to post brands on this board; I use several that I like. Many can be found in the drugstore quite cheaply.
Good luck, I know your pain! To the best of my knowledge, nothing exists that "cures" this problem, but it can be improved noticeably.

Paniscus, what exactly are extractions? Do you get like a tool that you sorta dig around with in your pores?

Or are they just those strips that you apply and then pull off. I've had limited success with them. Tried the Nivea for Men kind and they were just a pain to apply properly and then always dried too hard on my skin. Really rough. Right now I'm using Oxy 'Blackout' and they're better but still only limited in their success.

Have any of you tried anything that's helped in anyway?? I think the best strategy for us is just to try loads of stuff coz seems everything only works 'a little'.
