I am pretty into lifting wieghts, well i used to be. I havnt for a couple months cuase i was scared it might make my acne worse. Well anyways im thinking about asking my derm for accutane and was wondering if anyone has taken it and lifted weights at the same time? What was your experience? Did u make the same gains that you did while u were not on accutane? Ive heard of college basketball and football players being on it in season so im thinking it will prob be fine.

yes, my best friend is a national champion kick boxer and personal fitness trainer in weights etc he sufferered acne for a few years and he wanted to go on accutane, he went on accutane for 6 months, and he did not have the same strength since then, he lost a lot of muscle from it and has never been able to regain the power he once had. however, his acne did clear. i do not advise taking accutane if u are worried about your strength, as he wishes he never went on it now, he said he would rather have the pimples.

yup I just finished Accutane.. and the whole time on it I trained in the gym.

The gains are the same as if you arn't taking anything at all.

But you'll notice fatigue is more common.

Yeah, I play Rugby and Hockey at the university level and I went on it. Honestly, I didn't notice any decrease in strength level, but there was a definite decrease in motivation (fatigue). Anyways, Make sure to tell your doctor that you work out regularily. I had to stop taking the accutane because my Ck count shot up to 1341...which is pretty freaking high when you consider something like 0-198 is normal.

It's a muscle enzyme (creatine kinase). It's extremely rare to have to stop taking accutane because of it. Basically, if there is a high CK count it CAN be a sign of stress on your skeletal muscle.

Honestly, in retrospect, my CK count being so high was most likely a factor of my own stupidity rather than accutane. See, I forgot to tell my doctor that I was still playing hockey while on the drug (he knew about rugby, but the season ended earlier and I informed him when I stopped playing). Well, one day I had a particularily rough practice, followed by a post practice work out. That night I recieved a message from my doctor telling me that the blood test from the week before had a high CK level. He told me not to exercise for 72 hours and go in for another blood test, which I did. The thing was, I was still sore as hell from the workout 3 days ago. That's when they got the insanely high CK level.

I didn't really realise this till a bit later, so it could have been a fluke of some sort. I didn't pursue accutane much further because my acne was never that bad to begin with, mainly a mental thing. I'm sure if I needed to I could go on it again.

Anyways, like I said, it's rare to have to stop because of it....just make sure to let your doctor know about any exercise/supliments (I may have even been on creatine at the time).
