I just went to my Dr. for my acne on Monday. She prescribed Minocycline and Clindagel. My question is, has anyone had better results with acne medication when not wearinig make up compared to when they do or does it matter? I wear only non-comedogenic stuff (Revlon Color Stay Foundation, Almay Powder, Neutrogena Blush). IP: Logged |

This is certainly not a scientific response, but I do find that my skin looks better the first day back to work after not wearing makeup for 2 days. I think, though, that if you are using non-comedogenic, hypoallergenic make up, it shouldn't hurt you. Just make sure it is all oil free. IP: Logged |

The best foundation I've ever found is Clinique Pore minimizer. It doesn't take much and dries very quickly, but it doesn't look like you're wearing make up and yet the coverage is really good. You have to purchase it at a make up counter usually at a department store, unless you can get it online. I can't wear make up anymore for other reasons, but loved this when I could. I do cheat and use it on blemishes when I can, but very sparingly. A bottle now lasts me forever! L IP: Logged |

My skin looks better after not wearing it for two days also. However, my skin has dramtically improved since I wore make up. When I was plain jane, I was breaking out left and right, but when I started to where a little make up, I was forced to take better care of my skin. Use non comedoginc products. And take make up off when you are relaxing at home. Regardless if you where it or not, letting skin breathe, always seems help control acne. IP: Logged |

Thanks for your help. I always use oil-free make-up and love how I look in it but when I get home at the end of the day, I can't wait to take it off. I don't know why. If my pride wouldn't be hurt by my co-workers seeing what I really look like I would go without it. I think as it gets warmer I am going to have to cut back on the foundation. I am so oily around the nose and cheeks that in spring/summer I am constantly blotting the oil. I just hope my skin gets better over the next couple of months. My skin isn't totally bad but I work in a company where only one other girl wears make up and I would love to be one of the girls that doesn't have to! I have my derm appt. in May so maybe by then the minocycline will have kicked in. I'm black (yellowish/brown skin) and my skin it just so darn pasty without make up that marks from old acne and any new bumps stand out like look at me I'm going to take over her face. It's better than it's been in a while but these nodules are frustrating as hell. IP: Logged |

Hey! Don't worry, it will all become better and better, soon. I am on a similar combination of products since I saw my derm twelve days ago. Minocycline and benzaclin (it also has clyndamicin), but use differin at night. Anyhow, in those twelve days, you would not believe how much better my face is looking already. By the way, what are you using at night? Once you stop getting breakouts, get a little sun to hide the old scars you have and you will be good to go. As far as make up goes, I have noticed that I do not break out while I have it on. If I leave my house without wearing makeup, then I will break out. It seems to protect my face. I use Vichy laboratories foundation and almay oilfree, fragrance free powder and it actually seems to heal my acne. Good luck to you with your prescriptions... IP: Logged |

I use a Covergirl concealer stick. it works really well to cover everything, but it's not a fancy expensive foundation, so it's probably bad for my face. makeup doesn't seem to affect my breakouts. IP: Logged |

A lot of women on this board will say that foundation doesn't contribute to acne. I'm probably the only one on here that believes it does. I've had several derms tell me that the makeup doesn't help - it hinders the clearing process. I got off of foundation completely and (although it was difficult) cut down on picking. This along with my meds is what contributed to my face getting clear. Currently I'm on Yasmin along with topical meds and a vitamin suppliment and the only time I break out now is when I'm on my period - and it's only one or two little zits compared to a face full of cyst acne most of the time and a clear face for about 2 days - like before. I agree that since I've finally stopped wearing foundation my skin heals much faster, has a much better tone over all, has far less dead-cell buildup, and less breakouts. I also pick far less as I'm not constantly fussing with my face. It has had a remarkable effect all around. A little sun getting through is nice too, just a little, to add a bit of natural color, not relying on color from a bottle. I also agree that Clinique's pore minimizer foundation has good coverage yet is very sheer, and I wore it for years and years. It does fill in those pores and makes your skin look much nicer; however, the down side is that it contains alcohol, albeit the more gentle form, but it still acts as an irritant and makes your face red once it's washed off. This redness is no longer the problem it was while using makeup. My skin is much healthier now without foundation. I think if you can go without it, you should. Wouldn't you want your skin to breathe more freely without being covered over by potential irritants? They all lay on top of your pores in the end, and that can't be good. I don't have that buildup in my pores like I used to as a result of nixing it. I like Max Factor's concealer stick and it is the one I keep returning to despite trying all the others. It stays on well for oily skin. Paula's Choice concealer is good for sheer concealing of light imperfections that you want to put on large areas and the colors are the most natural of anyone else's out there. My experience is that my skin is in much much better condition when I am not wearing makeup. When I do, even if it is noncomodogenic or whatever i still breakout. [This message has been edited by PizzaFace (edited 04-13-2003).] IP: Logged |
