i don't know if this has been done but I think it would be a good idea for someone on a good acne diet to make a journal like the ones that people make for accutane. they could say what they ate for each meal, or each day, whatever, and if it is affecting their acne. just a thought.

I think that's what fuzzy has been trying to do all along. It would be good for finding out what you might be allergic to, but it's going to have minimal success at helping cure your acne if it isn't allergy-related. Some foods might aggravate your skin, but that's "iffy" and will only distract you from finding some real solutions to better skin.

Just how would you be able to prove that daily breakouts were really caused by the food you ate? There are many other different factors involved, so this is an exercise in futility unless you have food allergies.

I think this would only work if it were for a really long period of time...I believe something like this can only be proved if done on a long-term basis, mostly because of what poreoilyme said about the different factors that affect acne.

Actually that sounds like a very good idea. While there are a variety of factors, that's the main point about the diary. I know for me a major diet change was the LAST thing I did, but afterwards, I was able to drop certain medications and otc topicals. So it's not that hard to determine how effective a diet will be for you.

In fact that's what's really cool, because in the middle of my diet I ended up have IBS symptoms because I was lacking enough FIBER. Throughout this period I was having trouble sometimes when I ate food (nothing in particular) and I couldn't tolerate any vitamins. I was on antibiotics (prior to that), 2 doses of Diflucan, and 1 week of metronizadole (rosacea and IBS med) and I NEVER broke out while on or off of those drugs.

So for me that further proved that even though my body was going through some weird crap, it had no bearings on my skin at all. Infact throughout this, my skin was getting better ;-) Of course now I take a vegetable based fiber supplement and everything in that area is perfect and my skin is still happy. That's a good example of something you might go through if you Low Carb too much or incorrectly. Some people complain about lacking energy or feeling really crappy and well that MAY be a reason for some (there's my only journal entry). ;-)

I realize that the "word" isn't out yet about how strong an impact HORMONES play on ones acne. Yet, whether you have a food allergy, an intolerance, or a hormonal imbalance these can all lead to Acne as a SYMPTOM. To sit there and say that there is NO connection between food and acne shows me that A) either your doctor hasn't been updating you on the "latest" discoveries or B) you haven't been doing your research. That's ok, but PLEASE do not discount the countless number of people, more everyday, that are finding that SUGARS of various forms play a huge role in their acne development. If you want to call it a food intolerance so be it, but it's also just basic Science. Unfortunately some people can't handle sugar/carbohydrates and it increases their INSULIN levels and the body can only absorb so much insulin and, as a result the excess causes an increase in our favorite acne causing hormones. End of story, it's really that simple.

Some get acne, others get irregular menstrual cycles, hirsuitism, weight gain, development issues, ADD, arthritis, etc. There's plenty of studies that show this yet, why do people keep fighting it???

Hmmn...probably because the majority of experts and their studies don't support your claims.
