anyone on this board besides me have a problem with scalp acne? I get breakouts not only on the hairline but actually on my scalp as well. Ihave changed shampoos a few times and I avoid using conditioner but still I have this problem. I was wondering if anyone out there had any suggestions............I have been considering trying shampoo for people with dandruff. IP: Logged |

Oh, I used to have a terrible problem with this. I was too ashamed to ever go to a salon and get my hair cut because they would ask me what was wrong with my scalp, like I had some kind of disease they would catch. It was awful. #1 don't pick it, as hard as it is. It really helps a lot if you keep your hands off because scalp acne spreads like wildfire. Also, I found any products with coconut oil were big offenders. You really just have to keep trying all those shampoos out there until you find one that works. Start with baby shampoo and work on up. I found that a lot of the expensive salon formulations were the worst--especially Aveda and Kenra. Kenra even makes my entire body and face breakout the next day, it is so bad. I even tried shampoos with tar thinking maybe it was some other skin condition, but they didn't work either. Actually, coloring your hair really helps the most. The ammonia-based ones will really dry up those pimples and then you can use a safe shampoo and stay clear. Good luck and keep experimenting. That's about the only way to pinpoint what works for you, unfortunately. (I even tried a prescription scalp treatment BTW, but it didn't work either.) I found clarifying shampoos tend to be better. Costcutters and Tigi Bed Head work fine for me, as does Herbal Essences Clarifying shampoo (the green one). IP: Logged |

Hey, Stasia, have you tried B5? It really helps decrease the scalp oil which might help also. You can probably get results on a very low dose as I noticed this change immediately when I started using it. IP: Logged |
