Anyone got LASER done for their acne problems? If so, please reply to my questions: (I am thinking about doing it) -How severe was your facial acne / oily skin? ------------------------------- Hope to get some replies. Thanks for spending time to those who do reply. Really appreciate it. [This message has been edited by Aaron43 (edited 05-27-2003).] IP: Logged |

I've had both dermabrassion and laser resurfacing done. I was not that pleased with either one, and would not recomend them. I think the smoothbeam laser is different then the treatment I got, but I would approach any of these types of treatment with caution. IP: Logged |

i have a smoothbeam consultation scheduled for may 30. i'm really looking foward to it. the only things i'm afraid of if i end up getting it done are too much redness, not helping w/oiliness, and purpura which aren't small things i guess. IP: Logged |

I was very happy with the results of my laser skin resurfacing. Achieved about 70% improvement to my moderate acne scars. Sure, it hurt (I was awake), but after there was minimal pain at best - I was surprised that all that crusting and oozing was painless. I had red skin for a couple of months, then was back to normal. I'd do it again in a heartbeat, except this time do my nose, forehead, and eyelids too this time (last time was cheeks and chin only.) IP: Logged |

Oozing and crusting??? That was not a Smoothbeam Laser treatment! Smoothbeam is non-ablative and ONLY targets the dermis layer of your skin. What kind of laser treatment did you get? IP: Logged |

I am not sure what kind of laser was used, but it was the serious out-of-work-for-a-week laser resurfacing, not one of those treatments you do over and over. I was responding to some of the questions in the first post, not the title. IP: Logged |

I had Smoothbeam done on May 9th. I can't speak for the long term effects, but the short term effects are exceptional. I've had acne for many years & at 31 I knew i needed to do something. My acne wasn't always really bad, but definitely consistent. It never went away. The procedure took 15 minutes & the Dr. put a numbing cream on my face so i didn't feel it. I was able to go out & play softball 2 hours later & no one could tell. It was $400, but what I can see, hopefully the best $ i've ever spent! I need to do a couple more treatments, but so far i'm very happy with it. IP: Logged |

Twinbug Exactly what did the treatment do for you? Did it remove red marks? Pitted scars? Raised red scars? Active acne? IP: Logged |

Ive heard this can clear your skin for 6 months to a year. No downtime, no complications, it almost sounds too good to be true. Everything i guess except for the price. Does insurance help at all? IP: Logged |

No. INSURANCE doesn't cover this process. ACNE LASER treatment (remeber, acne, NOT acne scars) costs $1,200 here in Los Angeles for 8 sessions. It clears up the ACNE up to 98% following the 8 sessions (usually 8 sessions is about 4-8 weeks). The ACNE remains clear for about 1 year. After that, it is a big questionmark. BUT. The good news: Following the LASER TREATMENT, the dermatologist said he would put me on 2 things that would PREVENT the acne ever coming back! -Benzyl Peroxide Rx Face Wash [not the refridgerator gel, this is much more effective] -Glycolic Acid Toner ---------------------------------- The dermatologist said there are 3 different CURES for acne for 3 different SKIN types. That it why different methods work for different people. method 1: Retin-a, Mino *I happen to be method 3 since Retin-a and MINO didn't work at all - made my skin worse. Accutane? Well, why have SIDE EFFECTS when you can get laser? -That is my take at the LASER center. I hope to get it done soon. Good luck to eveyone else. I know how you all feel with acne. I have been to hell and back. IP: Logged |

I am really happy for you that you are getting this done. How old are you? Please make sure you let us all know how it goes. One more question, did your derm suggest this or did you find out about it another way? IP: Logged |
