Stasia,

I was given Diane-35 by my doctor for my acne, hormone problems and also facial hair. For me, it was a very bad experience because i started to get yeast infections every month, i had chronic headache and nausea everyday. Not to mention that my acne got worst and it didn't help me at all. I heard it worked for other, but for myself, it wasn't the answer!

I just bought my first 3 month supply of this stuff and now I'm afraid to take it.
Is there ANYBODY out there who has had good experiences with Diane 35?

i have been on diane 35 for 6 months now and it has cleared up my skin heaps. it really worked for me. no side effects except my bust has slightly increased but it has just resulted in them looking more perky i still wear the same cup size, so overall i have nothing but praise for diane 35.

I have been on ortho-tri cyclen for 7 years now. it is FDA approved for treatment of acne, but I don't know. I'm thinking of going off because I still get hormonal acne. I started BC when I was like 20 and had acne. so, I could be having it a lot worse. but i'd like to see. i also posted a week ago about wondering if BC side effect is darker spots. I never used to get dark spots as bad as I do now. anyone on ortho ever experience this or have problems with it?

No one has anything to say about Yasmin?!

Yasmin has cleared me up so much. I have maybe 2 tiny pimples on my face right now, and I'm so happy. I'm really shocked by how far I've come since I first registered here in March, after my derm suggested Accutane and I went into this state of shock and denial. I had deep nodules on my cheeks and chin and my forehead was covered in little tiny bumps. It's been about 5 months since then, and in the past month and a half, Yasmin has made all the difference in the world.

But I have had some strange side effects. For one, I have almost no emotion anymore. It's the weirdest thing- some people get moody, or on the opposite end of the spectrum, they feel fantastic. But I've always been a very sensitive person, little things would upset me or make me happy. Now I never get happy or sad about ANYTHING anymore. Don't get me wrong- I'm not the least bit depressed but I have to work to show any kind of emotional response. I suppose in some ways it's good because nothing offends me anymore. I'm pretty sure the pill did this to me because I've read a couple posts on the women's health board about this happening to them on Yasmin.

Also, I had a HUGE increase in appetite. It's gone down, but I gained about 5 lbs because of that.

For me though, these side effects are worth my acne clearing up. I really am so glad about this and I HIGHLY recommend this pill.

Im really happy 4 u guys,
For those of you that had success taking BCP's how bad was ur acne? where was it allocated? and how did u know ur acne was hormonal?

My acne is mainly on my forehead with afew others places to. Would a BCP clear it up? I tried Dianette in April and it gave me bad tingling pains in my leg.

Oh also forgot i have an unpredictable period cycle..could this be a link?

Hormonal acne is usually located around the mouth/chin/jaw areas.

OTC didn't help my skin at all.

Yasmin cleared my skin in 4 months, but it also made me gain weight.

OTC-LO is keeping my skin clear with no weight gain.

Remember that each woman's body can react differently to each pill!

I was on ortho tri-cyclen for about 2 years. Had little to no effect on my acne. No change when I went off it either. Either way the BCP didn't seem to effect my acne whatsoever.

I've been taking Ortho Tri Cyclen for about 2 years now and it's made a huge difference on my acne. (Not including the extra benefits, such as lighter periods, no menstral cramps, etc.)

Before OTC, I had been thru all sorts of oral and topical prescriptions for several years and nothing was working. Then my dermatologist gave me the option of Accutane and that's when I asked about Ortho Tri Cyclen after watching all the TV commercials ;) What's odd is that he had mentioned there was a different birth control that was showing much better results with acne than OTC- But it was only available overseas and had not yet been approved for use in the US. (this was back in 1997 or so) I relocated to another state soon afterwards, so that was the last time I saw that dermatologist... now it's made me wonder if he was talking about Yasmin, Diane 35, etc???

Anyway, once I started OTC, it not only helped out my face, but also made the constant bumps/pimples all over my neck, chest, & back completely dissapear. I do still get acne breakouts(although much more minor now than w/out BC) and still have really oily skin, huge pores, and bumpiness on my face, so I might be switching to Diane-35 or Yasmin in the near future. OTC did do a great job and got me this far, but I am hoping for even better results by trying out the other available options I never knew existed till I saw these boards.

But if this is as good as it gets, then I guess I'll be settling with the one with the most added bonuses- ie, the most health benefits and the least side effects/ risks :)

I had taken Ortho Tri-Cyclen for about four years. It cleared up my acne really well at first. But then I started breaking out after year. So I stopped temporarily. Strangely, my acne got better for a few months. Then it got worse. So after a seven-month absense from OTC, I went back on it. Acne cleared beautifully. Unfortunately, nine months later, I couldn't continue because I stopped seeing my on-campus doctor (I graduated from college). Acne actually became non-existent for a while. My skin looked great. But then, about eight months after I stopped taking OTC, my skin got really bad. So I went back on it. This time I was back in school as a graduate student. I stayed on OTC for nearly two years. Acne improved during the first year, but during the second year, it worsened. But it wasn't that bad - sort of mild. I was frustrated anyway so I switched to Diane 35. My skin cleared really fast. Unfortunately, I would tend to get one large zit right before my period. But during the rest of the month, my skin looked beautiful. Unfortunately, I had to get off of Diane 35 three months later because I completely lost my sex drive. So I went back on OTC. Acne actually stayed the same - clear during the month with a zit popping up right before my period. Because I was still having problems with my sex drive, I decided to go off of OTC and all birth control pills PERIOD, which was about three months after I started OTC again. After that, I was BCP-free for about ten months. Acne actually improved. My complexion looked great during the first seven months. But after the seventh month, I started breaking out like crazy. I looked awful. This continued for a while until I saw a doctor and was prescribed Desogen, which is supposed to be a low estrogen dose BCP. Today is my 8th day. So far, the oiliness has gone done and I see a little improvement. No big zits so far.

So, there's my life story.

Please respond if you have taken Desogen before or know something about it. Thanks!

I been using orthotricyclen for about a year, my acne begin to clear up after 3 months, however, I had horrible mood swings, I been totally mean to my boyfriend and friends but they been very understanding and I noticed I gained a little weight, not dramatic but it's definitely something I don't want, also my hair begin thinning so now my doc has switched my to desogen(Apri, Marvelon, Orthocept are the other names). I would like to know if anyone has had any success, any replies would be greatly appreciated.

I took Diane 35 when I was 16 for acne. After a month my skin was perfect, no longer oily and no acne. I was on it for 5 months when I started to suffer nausea, then I broke out in rashes then at 6 months got severe headaches, high blood pressure and nearly lost sight in one of my eyes because of clotting. I'd highly recommend trying birth control pills for acne but be VERY careful. If you suffer any symptoms, as slight as they may be then STOP. Get your blood pressure checked every 1-2 months. My acne returned after I stopped taking the pill

I started taking Yasmin because of all the rave reviews from people here. I am so glad I did.
I have not had a new pimple in I do not know hoe long...it had diminished the blackheads on my nose greatly and my red marks are fading fast. My skin is on its way to being pretty.
Also, I do not think I have experienced any side effects. Well I did experience the increased appetite but I did not gain any weight because I exercise daily, but other than that, I have not noticed any side effects.

thanks for answering everyone!
for whoever mentioned yasmin cleared up their acne but numbed emotions-that sounds a little strange to me.......I mean, while it is nice not to have horrible mood swings like my sis did on orthotri, I wouldnt want to feel nothing either. Do you still feel this way........?

also one of reasons i started this poll is because although I have never tried bcps personally for acne, my skin always looks fantastic the first day of my period and thereafter! so i was considering them but I dont want horrible moods as a side effect as am depressed enuf already. But it is so obvious that even though all my skin breakouts may not be completely hoormonal, whatever hormone my body releases the day i get my period makes my skin clear!

Yeah, I was told to get off Diane-35 ASAP, it is linked to more and more clotting and strokes....Apparently you shouldn't be on it for more than a few months...It did nothing for my acne and it made me gain weight...Worst thing I have ever taken in my entire life...Definately fit for the pit!!

Yes but is it true that diane has been pulled off the market??? i heard it but I can not find anything that sais that it has been. I guess there are riskes with everything when it comes to acne though.
