Hello,
Last winter, I was high-dosing B-5 (6-10 grams a day) in an attempt to cure my acne. I was on it for about 4-5 months, and needless to say it didn't work. However, while I was taking it, I started to notice that my head was becoming itchy, and that I was losing hair. I stopped not long after, but the itching and hairloss have been going on since and it is really starting to get serious, as the hair on my head is noticably thin and the texture seems to have completely changed. Could this be from the B-5? Could it have thrown my vitamin balance out of whack? It's depressing enough to deal with my acne, but this is getting very depressing. Thanks.

maverick, I dont know if B5 caused your hair to become like this but it looks like you might not be getting certain vitamin or mineral at a required amount. I have also noticed a big change in my hair texture in just one month in may, my hair are not thick any more as they use to be. I dont know what caused them to act like this but i understand what you mean. I would say to get a regular blood test to see if everything is fine. hope that helps

If you check past posts, there have been other cases of people losing massive amounts of hair from megadosing on B5. Sounds like they might be related. Sorry.

Ok, B5 doesn't cause hairloss, a vitamin deficiency will however. You didn't take Biotin with your B5 probably.

Alos, once you stopped B5, you kept loosing hair? B5 is not stored in your body, and has no 'lasting effects' unlike acutane. If you stop taking B5, your body will go back to it's deprived state of being.
The only side effects I notice on B5 are :
clear skin,
less oily skin,
smaller pores,
less body fat.

Hi,
I've been taking B5 for about 4 months and I haven't experienced any hair loss from it. I have heard that some people taking B5 thought their hair thinning might be associated with B5 though. Even if that's the case with them, I can't imagine why it would persist after ceasing taking B5.

A large dose of one B vitamin can cause a deficiency in other B vitamins. When taking B5 it's a good idea to make sure you take a daily dose of a B complex vitamin too. And for anyone who might start to experience thinning hair while on B5, taking extra Biotin might be a good idea, since Biotin deficiency can be linked to hair thinning. Biotin is of course part of the B complex vitamins, but there's not that much in a typical B complex vitamin pill, so taking a little extra would be a good idea. I don't myself, since I haven't experienced any hair loss from B5. I do though take a daily dose of a B complex vitamin.

Yup went through the hair thinning stage when i was mega dosing on b-5. I actually went to my derm about my hair thinning and told her i was megadosing on b5. She didnt know if it was related but asked me not to take such a high dose. I quit cold turkey because the hair thinning really scared me. Now it's been about 7 months and my hair is back. I actually noticed less hair falling out after 2 months.

I know there are no studies done on hairloss and b5 but for me i know it was the b5 coz everything else in the life is the same.
