I have seen an improvement in my scars (and overall skin texture) with microdermabrasion and the use of a retenoid (Retin-A).

I highly suggest both of these options.

Good Luck!

i was thinking about microdermabrasion but i seen all the before and after pictures and said after 10 treatments .... i aint got enough money to keep doing it... does 1 treatment ever fix anything? and how long is your face all red?

I have had a least 10 microdermabrasion within the last two years. The results are great and I did see an improvement. However, microdermabrasion is only temporary and the results do not last. You have to keep getting them to maintain the results which could end up being pretty costly.

I am scheduled for my first Cool Touch laser treatment next week to reduce my scars. The doctor is also going to do microdermabrasion between my laser treatments. He said that he does a deep microdermabrasion unlike the ones done at a spa which are superficial. Hopefully, this combo works.

GOOD LUCK!

microdermabrasion is only temporary? I thought it sands off skin to reveal new skin. Do scars grow back? Or is it only when one gets more acne that causes more scarring?

I have read that microdermabrasion is not permanent from reading different books and searching on the internet. Here is an excerpt from Paula Begoun's book "The Beauty Bible"

"Superficial microdermabrasion requires repeated treatment to see results and the results are not long-lasting. It can take from four weeks to three months before the improvement diminishes"

However, I do not know if deep microdermabrasion is permanent or not. Another excerpt from Paula's Book "..... causes dermal remodeling of collagen and should, therefore reduce the appearance of acne scars, pits, and deeper wrinkles"

I was getting superficial microdermabrasion (which only removes the top 3 to 5 layers of skin only) at a day spa. But when I went to see a dermatologist he said that he was going to do a deep micro (which involves disruption of part of or the entire epidermis).

I did not know that there were two different types of micros (superficial and deep) until I started doing research.

I hope this info helps. I wish I knew this before I spent all my money on superficial micros.

I meant to apologize for not being clear in my first response. I meant to say superficial micro is not permanent. With deep microdermabrasion... i don't know.

Sorry for the misunderstanding.

hello newman,
for indent scars, i can recommend a product with AHA. its an exfoliator thats ph balanced and really helps to level of your skin. i use a 3%aha product by beauty without cruelty and it works well. i was thinking of switching to the vinegar method, but i dont want to keep switching products on my skin. vinegar is about 7% aha and works faster. just dip a cotton ball in vinegar and spread it on your face. most people leave it on over night. it has worked wonders for many. good luck with whatever you decide to do.

newman999 what i meant was that your skin tone, tighness of skin, pore reduction, etc. is improved for 8 months.. if you get new pimples, after about 8 months you will have accumulated enough scars to need another treatment.. hopefully, noone ever gets another pimple again in their lives.. but chances are.. well... whatever.. i would get an obagi blue peel once a year, when i can afford it, unless my acne completly dissapears..

my scars r light but i just cant seem to get rid of them after 14 microdermabrasions,a co2 laser resurfacing,4 acid peels from a plastic surgeon.then i had a thermage done by a derm.i guess its a little better.im just going to stick with cheeper topicals for awhile like the topicals i bought at skin biology.spots are not scars.acne scars, even light ones r hard to remove.

i didnt notice any difference after the 14 microdermabrasions.but everbodys skin is different.im looking into scar subscion and fillers in the future.and the microdermabrasions were done on a medical grade microdermabrasion machine at the highest level.u might want to try it once to see if it help you.i just think i wasted 125 dollars x 14 in money.
