HI there, I have a few questions, perhaps someone out there can be so kind as to answer them for me- and potentially alleviate my worries. 1) I have been on birth control for over a year now- until recently, last month (april) I quit taking them. I didn't feel quite right on them.... and I've been told many times that being on the pill for too long can be bad for your body- that a "rest" from it is sometimes good. I was supposed to receive my period around late march - then, I stopped taking the pills in april. I am wondering how long it generally takes for your period to come back afterwards. 2) my boyfriend and i have been sexually active for about a year now, and any time we have had unprotected sex (while i was on the pill), he has always pulled out way before hand. he also isn't a big Pre-cummer. chances are , my gut is telling me that i am probably not pregnant (which I hope is the case). I've gone to planned parenthood and tested (through urine) and the result was negative. i have also (recently- within the past two weeks, and this morning's first urine) tested with "1st response. Both times the answer was negative. I have had an extreme amount of stress in the past two months- very very hard college finals, poor diet, and lots and lots of time put in at my part time job. I have also had mini cramps in my back (where I usually feel the most period pain) and a few stomach cramps when passing solid waste. Are these signs of my menstrual cycle? I believe they are, but I am just wondering and hoping for some back up information. Does stopping birth control affect your period for some time afterwards? Please let me know, and sorry to repeat any other questions that someone has already asked/answered. Thanks! IP: Logged |

I'm pretty sure you're not PG, taking into account the number of urine tests you've had come back negative. However, the only sure-fire way of knowing is with a blood test. Stress and bad nutrition can certainly delay your period, so that could be part of the reason it's late. Also, when you come off the pill, it can take your cycle some time to get back to normal. I would wait for AF (period) to start and then begin tracking it so that you know when it's going to appear every month. You could keep track of it on a calendar. Also, now that you're off the pill, you should be using another form of birth control. Condoms combined with spermicides are a good method if you don't want to take the pill again. Condoms also protect you from STD's if used properly. Another option is having an IUD fitted in, but you need to go to the doctor for that. I suggest you read the post titled "pregnancy info for teens, or anyone else", which I'll bump up for you. Good luck! IP: Logged |

I would also like to add that taking "breaks" from the pill yearly is NOT necessary and probably harder on your body then staying on the pill for several years. Unless you're giving up completely on the pill, I would discuss with your doctor your reasons for stopping the pill before your desire to get pregant. Good luck! ------------------ IP: Logged |

ok...speaking from personal experience here...(not saying that you are preganant of course... )as far as him not "precumming" much...he does, you just can't tell, the entire time you have sex, he is producing precum for lubrication. This lubrication has a higher sperm count than actual ejaculate. I got pregnant WHILE on birth control, using the pull out method. So I know it doesn't work. Sounds like you probably don't have to worry with all the neg. test results (the FIRST test I took came up pos.) but you need to be aware of this for future reference. Good luck and god bless!! ------------------ IP: Logged |

My doctor informed me that it is not necessary at all to take a rest for the pill. I was on it for 12 1/2 years! I quit taking it in April and my period ended up being delayed by 4 days, that's all. (of course I ended up convinced that I was pregnant, but I'm not...)I hope I am back on track next month. We'll see. Good luck to ya! IP: Logged |
