I had Harrington rod surgery for scoliosis in 1990, and have suffered from occasional pain in my left hip ever since. Since my surgeon removed bone from my left hip to use for fusion on my spine, and since the pain usually occurs during a drop in barometric pressure, I assume the pain is some kind of arthritic flare-up. I received a cortisone shot in my hip several years ago, but I did not notice a decrease in flare-ups.

I am 30 years old and 12 weeks pregnant with my second child. I had no pain in my hip at all during my first pregnancy. However, I have had daily pain every afternoon/evening since approximately the 4th week of this pregnancy. The pain is not debilitating, but it does interfere with my daily functioning to some extent. Especially when it comes to keeping up with my 17-month-old.

I am not overweight (5'10", 144 lbs.), so I don't think the pain is a result of excess weight load on my hips. Does anyone know if it is normal to have consistent arthritic pain during early pregnancy? Also, is there anything I can do to alleviate the pain? I know my medication options are limited since I'm pregnant, but Tylenol does nothing for the pain.

Thank you,

Mylinda
