I am a 21 year old male. I was around 16 when one of my eyes suddenly became infected, which turned out to be Iritis. My doctor gave me some eye drops and it went away immediately. Two years later I woke up one morning and my right foot was swolen and extremely painful. I researched my symptoms and thought it to be gout, however after having acid tests and other bloodwork gout was ruled out. After six months or so the pain started in my other foot as well. The bottom of my feet are tender and sometimes red, and some of my toes swell (not the big toe though, which is common for gout). I've been to about five doctors and they have all given me two or three anti-imflamatory prescriptions, and when that didn't help they all basically gave up. I have just recently read that a lot of people who have JRA suffer from Iritis. I was also around 16 when my symptoms started, so I am thinking this could be the problem. I desperately want to find out what is wrong with me, and find a treatment that actually works. If anyone has any ideas about what else this could be (besides arthritis) or has maybe heard a similar story (with a positive outcome hopefully) i would REALLY appreciate any help. I have been in pain for about three years now and am becoming more and more frustrated every day. THANKS! IP: Logged |

Dear myfeethurt, You didn't mention what kind of doctors you've seen. By all means, see a Rheumatologist right away. This type of doc can diagnose over 100 kinds of imflammation in the body and many different inflammatory diseases. Good luck, the answer is coming! IP: Logged |

Yes, I agree, you must get yourself off to a Rheumatologist. Well worth it. All the best. IP: Logged |

hi, i was (kind of) diagnosed with jra when i was about 12 and had surgery on my left knee. at about the age of 26 i was diagnosed with iritis. i went through the eye drop thing too. to make a long story short i have seen about 6 or 7 doctors since and am now 38 yrs old. no one will say i have any one particular arthritis because i apparently baffle the doctors. so, i take plaqunil and ibu to keep things in check. i suppose what i'm most trying to express to you is that sometimes there never is an exact answer to what we have. try to find a doctor that listens to you and is willing to try different things. good luck to you IP: Logged |

Hi,I am a 36 year old female with Iritis. At the age of 13 I was diagnosed with what they thought was JRA.As I bacame an adult and had other tests done I found out I have Ankylosing Spondylitis. It is hereditary in my family. When I was a teenager I had severe swelling, pain and redness in my feet and toes.Made it almost impossible to stand on them in the morning. You do need to see a Rheumatologist.I do know Iritis runs with RA,but also runs with AS.Good Luck!!And keep us posted on what you find out.
