I have an abnormal amount of skin tags that grow around my neck and under my arms. Some of them get quite large and are disgusting to look at. I cannot wear necklaces and have terrible problems shaving under my arms. They constantly catch on my clothing and become irritated and bleed. I have had many of these growths removed via laser, but I always see new small ones "starting" and I don't how to stop them from growing.

I have had them tested and they are not cancerous - just a nuisance. I was wondering if there were some dietary cure or natural way to combat these growths.

As a side note, I am on Hypothyroid therapy (I take Synthroid) and have been led to believe that there may be a connection to skin tags and thyroid disease.

Anyone know about this? Any suggestions out there.

Hmm...I thought I was the only one to have skin tags under my arms, I guess not! Honestly, I get rid of my skin tags very easily, but I don't think it's recommended at all.

I take a pair of small scissors and slowly snip at my skin tags. They bleed and hurt for a few minutes but once I do this it's all over. It takes about 2-3 days and my skin will heal and it looks as if I never had any. This was great for me because I've had a really large one above my EYE (yeah, social nightmare) and I was so relieved and excited when it was gone. I've done this to many of them, and now I am pretty much skin tag free. If you do this please let me know if it worked.

I cut mine off as well....my derm told me it was OK to do this cause my insurance won't pay to remove them and it costs about $75 each.

Is there a possible complication or problem if skin tags, from time to time, become sore, shrivel up and fall off? Only the top portion drys up and the base remains and grows again.

Any thoughts?

omg you cut them?? Doesn't that hurt terribly?? I have a few very tiny ones on my neck, and was going to have the derm laser them off, but insurance doesn't cover that? I can't imagine it takes more than 10 seconds!

There is no way I could cut mine off - they are not small and the bases are "well developed" not flimsy. When I was young and had only a few I could twist them and in a few days they would fall off. But as an adult they seem to be more deeply rooted.

Does anyone else who has these skin tags also have thyroid disease? Has anyone heard of a way to slow or prevent the growth or regrowth?

I did have about 100 removed from my neck - its been about 15 months and it did offer a dramatic improvement. I can actually where a regular neckline again (I wore turtlenecks even in the summer for many years)

I went to a cosmetic surgeon - his normal fee was $175 for 10, but when he saw my neck he said he would do "as many as he could" per session. I finally figured out what that meant. The doctor fills a tube of Novacain or other local anesthetic because the skin tags must be numbed before they are cut/burned. This doctor was willing to numb/cut as many skin tags as he could inject with the single tube of anesthetic - in my case it was about 40 per sitting. I had minimal scarring with laser and even that has faded over the last year.

Now, a year later, I can see all the new little ones starting.

I wish there was some research done on this or even better, a cure!

I just found this for a treatment. Although I don't really like the fact that if you stop taking it, they come back. Who wants to be taking something for the rest of their lives?

"Some people have their skin tags disappear if they take chromium picolinate 200 mcg twice a day. This trace element is available at health food and drug stores without a prescription. Chromium polynicotinate can also be taken and is sold under the name Natrol ChromeMate. This mineral must be taken for 3 months to see the results and if you stop taking the chromium the tags will recur."

Last week I took my first shot at removing a skin tag. After my workout and shower I used an ice pack to numb the area. While in the shower I put the scissors in alcohol to steralize them. A quick wack with the scissors on the numbed tag and it was free.

The only challenge is that I have been dealing with a mild case of some type of flue and have been using asprin to keep th body ache down. This seemed to thin my blood to the point that it took a while to stop the bleeding. Next time I will know better.

I hope that this helps someone. I intend to eliminate one tag every two weeks. Don't wish to risk infection unnecessarily.

I am an albino so obviously I am WHITE LOL
I am sensitive to alot of stuff but my biggest complaint is the skin tags. I used to tear them off but my derm. told me NEVER to do that. They are a type of mole and moles are viruses. It'll just make them spread more. The best thing to do it have them burnt off. It's like a car cig. liter. They zap them and they fall off. I have to done every 6 months because they are always growing on my neck and eyelids. But the good thing is that whereever they burn them off, they won't ever return there. I am considering having a whole peeling of my face and neck to try and stop it.
