I have read alot about people in here saying you cant get rid of cellulite and the only way to make it better is to excercise, WRONG!!!!!!!! these people only think that because they have tried wrong things, I have studied cellulite and also many gymnasts and dancers have it, and god knows that they excercise, there are so many ways, i just want you women with cellulite to keep your heads high with hope because there are ways and not to think it is just part of being a woman, COME ON WOMEN ARE BEAUTIFUL!

I was wondering, could cellulite be hereditary? and do males get cellulite?

So many things from body type/shape to health in general often seems to follow on from our parents. My mother is soon turning 64 yrs of age and has shapely legs, no cellulite or varicose vein problems, just the odd tiny broken capillary. I'm hoping i'll end up like my mum. Maybe genetics have a lot to do with with it.

Yes, genetics has a lot to do with how we end up looking, for better or worse. Your genes are your "guides" in life but you may not get to your destination if you choose a different path. For example, you may be genetically predisposed to getting fat BUT if you a careful about what you eat and exercise a great deal, you may not to become fat. On the other hand, you may be genetically prediposed to looking pretty good when older (like your mom) BUT if you smoke, drink a lot, pile on pounds and don't exercise, the cellulite WILL come, the vericose veins may show up (due to lugging excess weight) and the shapely legs will be hidden under a layer of fat. So, yes, you may get lucky in your genetics but it may not be enough if you abuse your body.

I know this is old, but I'd like to know if anyone has used anything that helps reduce or improve the appearance of cellulite.

It helps if you know how cellulite is made 1:Lack of excercise to ALL of the leg muscles.Try adult ballet, running, pilates, yoga(ashtanga, bikram),volleyball, swimming for 1 year(4-5 times a week 1-2 hrs. each time) and get back to me. 2:The type of fat that cellulite is occurs ,I think, when the normal fat cell is pushed past it's normal capacity. This type of fat is also created by fried or deep fried foods.Anything from cheerios to potato (french fries)chips are evil creators of this particularly difficult to get rid of fat.The oil in the food product undergoes a structure change when it is heated to a certain temperature, and this really horrible fat is created.Apparently it is 10 times more difficult to work off than fat from say milk products(ice cream) So get goin' ya got a few laps to swim or run.

Well, I walk a mile every day and use ankle weights to do some exercises. I don't eat fried foods, either. My legs are just not as tight as they used to be. I've been using the Avon Celluscript (or whatever it's called) and have not seen any results. I was just wondering what else I could do.

I have also read that cellulite can occur if taking the birth control pill which causes fluid retention.

I have never weighed more than 110, have exercised & weight trained at least 3 days a week for the past 7 years of my life (I’m 29) and my tiny ass and upper thighs are COVERED with cellulite. I am living proof that is does NOT MATTER how much exercise you get (though I’m sure mine would be much worse if I diddn’t!) and I am convinced that it is totally hereditary - my mom has the exact problem and also had it as early as her early 20’s. I have undressed at the gym next to women 3 times my size with less cellulite than me. It is quite depressing...

I have to agree that it's hereditary and that it is not possible to get rid of it with creams. I eat very healthy, ride a horse practically every day and do aerobics, so I get both exercise and massage, but still have some cellulite. My mother has some, but not too bad, so I hope to not get more. Oh, well. In a way it's almost comforting that even skinny girls get it.

Has anyone tried the herb Gotu Kola for cellulite? I've been taking it for about two months and have noticed some improvement. It supposedly helps control cellulite because it reinforces the structure of connective tissue.
