hi folks, i was checking out this BB looking for info on how to deal with hair loss. it occurred to me, perhaps people don't know some stuff about what hair loss can signify (i didn't until about 4 weeks ago). relatively sudden, increased rate of hair loss can be a symptom -- probably of any of a bunch of things. o one of the many is low thyroid ("hypothyroid"). i was recently diagnosed as being hypothyroid and it explained a bunch of things that i had noticed had developed very, very gradually over the last 5+ years or so. among these were: hair loss (and corresponding change in texture), sinus problems, sluggishness/lack of motivation, depression/anxiety, "brain fog" (difficulty finding words or putting thoughts together coherently), and most recently, very dry skin. if you've noticed symptoms like these, i strongly encourage you to visit www.thyroid-info.com/chklst.htm and look at the list of symptoms; or to see your doctor and have a physical and have them do bloodwork. you never know; what seems like a cosmetic annoyance could be a sign of your body's metabolism having difficulty jumpstarting itself. best of luck to all, twirlygirl IP: Logged |

Hairloss can also be a sign of anemia. I've been losing hair since January and my doctor told me that it was a delayed reaction to a illness I had 3 months back. He did not do bloodwork. I ended up in the hospital lastweek due to an unrelated problem and they found that my hemoglobin was below normal. Mine being 94, when normal levels should be 120-160. My iron levels are below normal as well as B-12 (pernicious anemia). So now that, that is being treated, hopefully I will grow some hair back with feeling better. IP: Logged |
