If anyone has any knowledge of this or can help me out I would appreciate it.

When my wife was 10 years old she was in an accident where she severly broke her leg. It was quite painful and traumatizing. Shortly thereafter, her hair began falling out in clumps. She lived in Bulgaria and they shaved her hair completely off and tried all sorts of strange rememdies.

Anyway, to this day, and my wife is 28 years old, she still has hair loss. She's had it treated as alopecia, and no results. She even say a psychologist about post-traumatic stress disorder and he said she was fine and it must be something physical.

Her hair is very thin and thinner is some places (patches) more than others. And its almost as if the hairs themselves are thinner and more frail. Her hair has trouble growing over a certain length before it starts to fall out, maybe an inch to two inches or so.

Could this be highly coupled with breaking her leg? Anyone know anything about this? Thanks in advance.

Dave

Your wife is likely suffering from alopecia Areata, which is a form of auto-immunity that focuses on the hair cells. It could be related to stress of your wifes accident, but its highly unlikely that it correlates with her broken leg. It often occurs durning youth, puberty or menapause when hormones are out of balance. In many cases the condition resolves itself on its own, and in other cases treatment with minoxidil or other hair growth stimulators are prescribed.

Try T-Gel Shampoo (which is tar based). I just was introduced to this shampoo for my hair loss and it has been the only thing that has helped me with regrowth. I just started to lose my hair about 3 months ago but had a full head and now i am bald. Had to buy a wig recently but since using this shampoo (I have tried others)I have finally seen regrowth. I was able to get this shampoo at CVS and its not real expensive. It is made by Neutrogena and there are other brands but this one I think has the most amount of the TAR that is the ingredient supposedly that helps.

Just a thought, not sure if it will help the cause but its worth a try.

If it could be because her hormones are out of balance, is there a way to fix the source of the hormonal imbalance? It seems like minoxydil doesn't quite do this...besides she has tried minoxydil several time and it doesn't help her at all.

Even the doctor in Bulgaria who was known for treating hair loss stated that she hadn't seen anything quite like my wifes hair loss problem.

I guess we are getting pretty discouraged. Losing your hair from a gene is one thing, but her case does not seem to be that and so thats why we hope that we can inquire what other have tried and been successful and/or if they have ever heard of a condition similar to my wife's.

My doctor said my hairloss was due to being Hypothyroid. I lost all of my hair so I think it may be a combination of a few things going on. I have dealt with plenty of stress over the past year, also have had birth control problems (which is also hormone related) and the thyroid problem. I also was on LA Weightloss which I think could be a problem knowing that my eating had changed drastically and I have read that crash diets could be a cause. These are a few problems I have dealt with and just thought maybe you could try at least the thyroid thing.

What kind of treatment did you doctore reccommend for your hypothyroidism? We have thought this might be a cause with my wife as well as anemia.

i have been put on levoxyl but i know there are lots of meds for thyroidism. can she see the doctor. i know that they should do blood work to find out the problem. its horrible to lose hair and i am a wreck about it. but its something that happens and the more support i get from my friends/family the better i feel. i did buy a wig cause my hair was almost all gone. that takes some time to get used to but its better than being completely bald.

Hi I also have a hairloss problem. I really think its stress related. I had a full physical and all my test came out fine. I went to a Dermatologist and he told me not to worry that he sees new growth coming in. That visit seemed to slow down my shedding/ or practically stop it for awhile. Then it started again. I don't know what to do. I am going to start the TGel and see how that works. I went from a full head of hair to the last 2 yrs always finding my hair every where.

For hair loss, you should try Phytoaxil from Phyto. I had a hair loss problem and that is what helped me. I tried may other products, and this one did it for me. You can find it online at many web sites, and also at saks, neiman marcus and sephora. Good luck!
