Has anyone had any experience with accellerated hairloss while taking Wellbutrin? I have been on 300mg/day for about 6 months and have noticed an accelleration of hairloss. I am a 37 year old male and have experienced minor hairloss on my vertex (crown) since about the age of 34, which had not increased since then. It seems as if my hairloss has accellerated in the past month. I have read where an uncommon side effect with Wellbutrin can be hairloss. Could this be the case, or is it common for this type of hairloss to increase at my age? Any insight would be appreciated.

Yes, I think I have read that hair loss can be a side effect.

Hello-I'm a 31 year old woman. I was diagnosed with hypo-thyroid 10 years ago and started taking meds and never had a problem. I started taking Wellbutrin last february and I also take a birth control pill. My hair started falling out at the end of last May and hasn't stopped. I've lost 3/4's of my long hair-it is so thin!!! Anyway-my thyroid level was checked and was off so we've assumed that was why my hair was falling out, but since I've started new meds my hair is still falling out just the same! Just today my gyna. nurse told me that wellbutrin has a side affect of "Alopecia"(hair loss) I could have died. My endocrinoligist mentioned nothing about this. I'm so confused as to what is causing this so starting today I'm cutting back on the Wellbutrin (150 every other day).I'm so high strung about my hair that it's driving me nuts-doesn't help that I care VERY much about my appearance so it makes matters worse. Would like to know if hair loss cleared up after reducing amount of Wellbutrin. Please reply-Thank You!!!!

I would talk to your doctor before cutting down on your anti-depressant. You never know, you could be giving yourself all of the side effects with half of the anti-depressant effect!

I have big time hair loss also. I am a 47 year old female and taking Celexa. It has happened with other antidepressants, the worse "Lexapro." Some people are fine taking them, others do not tolerate them the same. It seems like now I am on a downhill spiral and the hairloss is terrible. For me it is so difficult because I have always taken pride in my appearance with my hair playing that big role. Even off the antidepressant it falls out. I do have fibromyalgia ( 1 year) and told that could be a contributing factor, but this began with the Lexapro and continues since. I wish there was a miracle cure.
