Hello I've had a rough time with anxiety for the past 2 years and have finally decided to take Paxil to help calm me downa bit...The worst syptom I've found from the past few months (I've taken paxil for only 3 weeks and its not that) is the muscles in my neck and shoulders are really stiff and I sort of twitch a bit and when I get really stressed at work sometimes when I move my neck it can feel like its almost grating the worst was when I see a movie at the cinema now because my neck is so stiff after watching the screen...Has anyone been in the same boat?? What can I do because I can barely cope with my anxiety and this just makes me agrophobic and not myself at allIP: Logged |

Hi Moggy: The physical descriptions were identical to what I experienced when I took Ritalin and also Dexadrine. While the compounds are different than Paxil, it was obvious to me that I had a type of reaction to this medication. As I was getting some good benefit I hated to stop, but also noticed anxiety levels and strange behaviors as well. I dont know of a test, but for me it was obvious I needed to stop and the pain in my neck was gone in two days. Wil IP: Logged |

Thanks you two, and nah it's not a side effect of the paxil, i've had the neck stiffness months before taking it...damn its annoying, do you still get the neck stiffness Mrs Romano or has it gone/have you found ways to cope with it? Thanks again IP: Logged |

I have panic attacks a lot and my neck and upper back gets so stiff it feels like all my muscles in those areas are twisting in knots. My panic attacks got so bad I couldn't function and do normal daily things like just going to work. I would get to work have a panic attack just sitting at my desk and get so freaked out I had to leave fast! I also had a lot of muscle tension in my front upper shoulders, it almost felt sometimes like I couldn't breathe, that something was crushing my lungs and I got really dizzy and uncoordinated. I beat my panic attacks without meds and I still have muscle tension just not as bad. I found that when I feel my muscles start to tense up just relax, think of anything else you can except your muscles tightening up or it will only get worse. If you are at home go lay down or take a hot shower, If you are driving pull over somewhere take some deep breaths, do shoulder and neck rolls (they help a lot), stop off at mcdonalds or somewhere and grab a drink, go in the bathroom and wash you face and just relax. These are some of the things I did that seemed to help a lot for me. I hope my advice was at least of some help to you. Keep us posted and let us know how you are doing. I didn't like Paxil either when I was on it, I had severe cottonmouth and I didn't help my muscles whether I took it or not so its not the meds doing this. IP: Logged |

Hey P.S. Sorry I was going to mention too. Go visit a chiropractor. You will leave feeling like a million bucks :-) If you've never been to one their first visit is usually always free. They will pop you all over and you will feel sooooo relaxed and just great when you leave their office. Anyways just another thought IP: Logged |

Hi OkieGal Thanks a lot for your post and to everyone else too. It's nice to know I'm not all alone :P I think I'll try that chiropractor idea, sounds great! Thanks again, MoggyIP: Logged |
