IM not even sure if this is the right board but her goes. I know tanned skin looks better but is it unattractive to be really white. the other day I was at the beech and one of my girl friends called me Casper said my white skin was gross. I have a really ripped sex body going but im not sure if my pasty skin is taking away from that. I just cant get exposed to sun and I dont feel like tan in a can. is white skin really unattractive? oh yeah please no responses on the lines of who cares what others think "slef esteem" its just a ? My fiance has a very white body and I think he's incredibly sexy. I never went for the tanned look. IP: Logged |

I have very fair skin and my boyfriend thinks it is very attractive. Some people think tanned bodies seem more healthy. This is why your friend probably said it was gross. I love my skin color though. I think fair skin is beautiful. IP: Logged |

I also prefer fair skin. I've always been really fair skinned and my hubby thinks I look fantastic. We've all heard the warnings about tanning in the sun/tanning beds (skin cancer, premature aging,) and tan in a can just makes most people look orange. IP: Logged |

i had a long term girlfriend once who had pretty fair skin - it didn't bother me at all. everybody has their preference, but since you say you have a "smokin bod", then why worry about your skin colour? IP: Logged |

I tend to feel better about myself when my skinned is tanned. I'm a sun worshipper in the summer and sometimes go tanning in the winter. I know I'll probably pay for it later in life but I just love it so much. I'm sure I'll look 50 by the time I'm 40 though ![]() IP: Logged |

I hate tans. I have always liked very pale skin, or darker skin that is naturally that color without any help from the sun. I think tans look fake most of the times, and I HATE tan lines. Of course, that's just my opinion. IP: Logged |

I think fair skinned can and is just as pretty as tanned skin...I myself have always been dark skinned but that's from the native american blood in me and it doesn't take me 10 mins in the sun before I have darker skin then I went out with...but that's just how it's always been, but my nephew on the other hand is very fair skinned and I think his skin is just fine JMO ![]() IP: Logged |

I always complained about my pale skin, but my bf said he loves it. It just depends on the persons personal tastes. Also, I agree...I would much rather be pale then get skin cancer. IP: Logged |

I'm sorry to hear your "friend" called you gross. If it really bothers you, have you considered a tanning bed? I'm not familiar with them so I'm not sure if the emissions from tanning beds are similar to those of natural sunlight. Or, if you get the Muscle magazines (I'm assuming you're a body-builder from your post), I've seen tanning supplements advertised that tan you from the inside out. No UV Rays! Just a thought... i've always had very fair skin, and dark hair. I've been called snow white way too many times, but i've noticed a lot of guys find the fair/pale skin look very attractive. I love it. It makes me stand out, and i think its beautiful. ------------------ IP: Logged |

silently confident, I don't know if you're a guy or girl, so I'll help with both. My last girlfriend was very pale skinned. She was beautifull. The one I'm casually dating now also is lighter. She's hot too. If you're a guy, women will differ in opinion, just as men do. But I know a lot of light/pale skinned guys that do just fine with the ladies. It's natural to be concerned with how you look. I'm sure you look just fine though. **Usually ones skin color will tend to compliment their other features. Can you imagine a blue eyed blond with really dark skin? What about a dark eyed person with black hair being super light? IP: Logged |

I go to tanning beds. I have for a year now. I started because at my gym my trainer told me that if I want to compete then tan is better because it shows the muscals more, which is so true. I always thought tan looks good. But I dont think white looks bad. But like you said you have a more muscular body, tan will make your muscal "pop" out more. I think its all up to you, and how you want to appear IP: Logged |

quote: Um, there are lots of blue-eyed blonds who can get really dark tans naturally (no chemicals or tanning booths). As a matter of fact, the sun lightens blond hair even more so it's very natural. And there are lots of dark-haired fair-skinned people around (see AmyLynn's "Snow White" comment). No need to imagine, they do exist. Anyway, I think pale skin can be attractive provided you don't also look sick - there's a difference between looking white (untanned) and pallid (anemic). And certainly untanned skin can even be more attractive than those freakishly tanned people (especially here in Canada in the winter!) that's for sure. As long as it looks natural and healthy, either pale or tanned works for me. IP: Logged |

I prefer a little bit of a tan. Too pale is a bit of a turn off for me. To each his own though. As you can see from the responses, a lot of people seem to like fair skin. IP: Logged |

I also get the Snow White comment. My hair is a dark brown almost black and I have dark brown eyes but very white skin. Dh and I joke that I can glow in the dark I am so white. DH loves my pale skin. He is part Native American and so has darker skin than I. He loves the way we look together...(I will leave that up to interpretation). For me I dont like tan skin. To me it feels too rough and dry. So up until I met DH I had only dated and been with pale skinned guys. Even now I will catch myself noticing pale skinned guys. Your "friend" was cruel to say that to you. But that is their opinion and they are entitled to it. Just know that everyone is different and hence likes different things. IP: Logged |

Thisby, It may be true that blue eyed blondes can tan well, but it's not common to see them with very dark skin. That is, unless they're fake blonds. Also, it's not so common to see people with dark eyes (not blue like snow white) and very dark hair, being quite pale. Does it happen, sure. But it's not that common. So I stand by my comments. So what must we say? Why don't u get the tan in the box? I think it is saver and probably less effort than taning. I am not sure. I hardly ever tan and don't care to be tanned. IP: Logged |

Actually,The Advocate,it is common that dark haired and dark eyed people to be pale skinned. Most of my family is that way. Also from where I grew up there are many people like that. I grew up in the south and dark haired/eyed pale skinned people were quite common. Also Snow White's eye color is never mentioned in the Grimm's Fairy Tales. Also in the Disney movie her eyes are indeed brown. The other tales in which Snow White(Snow Drop is the actual title of the old tales) was derived from dont mention her eye color either. So it may not be common where you are but there are other places where it is quite common. IP: Logged |

I am dark skinned and I have always found fair skin to be really attractive. It goes against the "norm" that says tan bodies are hot, but I think I like it because the parts of the body that are the lightest are usually the least exposed and the softest. And soft skin is definitely a turn on. One thing, though, that makes pale skin look more pale is very dark body hair. If it bothers you, maybe lightening your hair a little is a better option than tanning. IP: Logged |

i don't know how old you are, but you will be happy you stayed out of the sun when you're older, and look half the age of all of your friends that tanned. i used to tan all the time. i am 24, and always wear sunblock in the sun now, and never really get tan. it doesn't bother me. i once got inot a car accident with an older couple a few summers ago. he asked me to please go sit in the shade with his wife while we waited for the police, and then proceded to lift his cap and show me his skin cancer. he told me to always stay out of the sun because i wouldn't want to go through what he went through. that scared the sh*t out of me, and i haven't tanned sinse. no i don't think there's anything wrong with being pale. i'm black but i'm probably as white as you. people ask me if i'm mixed all the time and when i tell them no, they don't believe me. i'm still very pretty and you don't have to be tan or dark to be pretty. I have a guy friend that's white (and i do mean white) but he's fine as hell. so don't go burnin your skin up in a tanning bed, you might end up being worser off than before. plus where i'm from it's super cold right now but when it warms up i'll get more color and if it's cold where you are, you probably will too. so don't sweat it, you're not the only pale person in the world. Silentlyconfident, I think your girlfriends are jealous of you...some 'friends' they are! I am british but of indian origin and i LOVE fair skin. Alot of asian girls like myself would love to have fair skin. We do the opposite of what white girls do - avoid the sun and wear sunblock with the highest factor (ok, im stereotyping, but u know what im talking about). My best friend is white and uses sun beds. i'll never understand why, because she has beautiful skin colour. I was in a bus heading into college one morning. There was this young woman with fake orange tan skin, she look ridiculous!...it made my bus journey more amusing. All i can say is be happy with what u got! IP: Logged |

I agree with the sentiment that one's natural skin color and tone are best. I dated a woman of Mexican-American origin whose lovely brown skin looked perfect with her dark hair and eyes. My wife, however, is Irish-American and has gorgeous fair skin. The worst thing that a person can do is look fake. IP: Logged |

I am tan and I am called brown most of the times. anyways, I always wanted to be fairer back home cause thats how you are judged. fair is pretty. I am not very dark and get sun tan easily. I came here at US and everone liked my skin tone. I just realized you always want what you don't have. I would also think that trying to be something you are not, is bad idea and you should be confident with your natural self. Nothing is gross, its all in the eye of beholder. IP: Logged |

Why hang out with "friends" that are going to put you down and make you feel self-conscious enough to post a thread like this? I think it is more of an attack than an opinion and why do they care what color skin yours is? Why does it bother THEM? I don't get it! It's probably the only thing they could find wrong with you. I used to have jealous friends too and they just told me my skin was so light. But that was all they could come up with at the time. Seriously hang out with people that are true friends and you have a good time with, not ones who are going to put others down to make them feel good about themselves. I go to the tanning salon about 1 month before tank top and shorts weather hits! I feel much better tanned, I normally have quite fair skin as well! I think I look better with a tan, and I feel so much better! It beats starting summer white and ending up with tan lines! This way I can wear a short-sleeve shirt on a hot sunny day and not worry about getting tan lines! You don't have to tan until you're DARK but I think a light tan looks best on everyone! IP: Logged |

I have to disagree Hezza, not EVERYONE looks great with a tan and that includes even a light tan. My skin looks nasty with even a light tan because it looks leathery and dry. DH even says that my skin is softer when it is not tan. I also know a few friends that have tried to be lightly tan and they didnt look right. Even they themselves said they didnt look right to themselves. So not everyone looks best with a tan no matter what shade of tan. IP: Logged |

well, I personally love my fair skin, but on occassion want to have a healthy glow/tan. I just use sunless tanners- that way I know I'm not damaging my skin by going to a tanning bed or laying out in the sun. I know that the tanner will fade in about a week, too, so I'm not committed to the "tanned look" either. IP: Logged |

Given the advice you've read here sweetie, the problem isn't with your skin colour. The problem is your friend who is obviously very one track minded. There's beauty in everything, and obviously your friend can't see that.... Keep Smiling!!! V~ IP: Logged |
