Hi. I've been taking Levoxyl 50mcg for 6 weeks now, just got bumped up to 75 mcg.

Why do you want to take Cytomel? I'm just curious...this is all new to me.

thanks!!

Hi Ruby,

I've been on 137 mcg for about a year now. However, about 2 months ago I got my levels checked again. My doctor lowered my dose to 125 mcg because he thought that my Free T4 was a little high.

If you're new to this, it can be a little confusing. Here's a chart you can refer to for your test results: http://thyroid.about.com/library/weekly/bltest-values.htm

Well, to answer your question, I'm interested in adding Cytomel because I've heard that it may help with depression. Also, I haven't been able to lose all the weight that I've gained because of my hypothyroidism.

In some of my searches, I read that bodybuilders have used Cytomel to lose weight before a competition. So, I figure, if it's suppose to help increase your metabolism, it may help me too.

Ever since being diagnosed as hypo, my energy levels have never been the same. I've read on these boards that some have tried adding Cytomel to their thyroid meds and some, not all, have felt better.

I figure, why not give it a try? I've been somewhat stabilized on my thyroid meds for quite a while now. I have an appointment on Friday with my doctor to discuss the possiblity of taking Cytomel in combination with Levoxol. Now, whether or not he'll agree is a different story. We'll see.

I hope some of this may have helped!

Hi there,

I talked to my doctor this past Friday and he okay'd adding Cytomel to the Levoxyl that I'm already taking.

Well actually, once he gets my blood results back, then he'll adjust (lower) my Levoxyl and add the Cytomel.

I should know Monday or Tuesday and then I'll be starting on the new combo.

Thanks BLJ! I look forward to hearing from you.

My increase to 75 mcg has not been the greatest. I find that I can't sleep well at night. I will give it the full 6 weeks. Then I go back for more labs. I think my endo is on the right track. My TSH last week was 2.9, but he wants it at a 1, since I have nodules and a goiter, and Hashimotos. But that is all he is testing now - the TSH. Maybe I should have him test T4, or T3?

I thought that once I started taking thyroid meds, my excess weight would be easier to lose, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Please let me know how your new meds work.

Thanks again!
