How much hair loss is considered a symptom of thyroid issues? I don't have bald spotts but my tub brain is FULL everytime I wash my hair or brush it! I shed constantly...Any idea? IP: Logged |

I'm not sure how much exactly is considered "hair loss," but I am having the same problem. My hair is naturally very, very thick. Lately it has become much thinner around the crown and bangs (eyebrows too on the outer edges) and very coarse, almost "wirey" in places mainly behind the ears and around the back of the head, yet no "bald spots" to mention yet. I'm considering mine "hair loss". P.S.- Did you notice all our "smileys" seem to be bald? Anyone know how to give 'em some hair? HEHEHE! IP: Logged |

Ohhh I know what you mean! I'm constantly cleaning out the drains and my hair brush! I'm so tired of cleaning them I could almost spit! My hair is naturally staight and thin so I can't afford to lose much more of it. The only hair that is coming in thick is the gray. And it's curly too. Boy, is it noticable! So, yes, I would say that I definitely AM losing my hair and it is DEFINITELY because of my darn thyroid. Barb IP: Logged |

My thyroid books say that losing our hair is a symptom of being hypo, as is losing the outside third of our eyebrows. This is the first time I've ever lost hair like now, and I've been struggling with hypo since the 80's. I briefly went hyper for a few weeks, and don't wanna go back there anytime soon! This AM I got out of the shower and was shocked to see hair falling out!! I am on Armour (3 grns) and Cytomel.I just added the cytomel to correct very low T3 and stopped soy, as some fo you know. I have been on the new diet and meds for 3 weeks now. Will the hair loss stop?? Yuck. My hair is very fine and was Ok in thickness, but now looks kind of thin. Is there hope? I know this is not as serious as some of the problems some of you have, but would like to know. thanks, I IP: Logged |
