Consider avoiding it all together. Check out http://www.holisticmed.com/aspartame/
There are other sugar substitutes, even if you have to give up your Diet Coke.

I honestly don't know about Diet Rite. You might actually consider writing or calling the company to find out what it is sweetened with. It might be some kind of saccharine still... I'd be wary of it. In my honest opinion, cutting soda out of your diet altogether is best. My husband started drinking those bottled green teas instead of soda every day and he lost something like 20 pounnds in the matter of 2 or 3 months (and that was the only change he made). It's not just the sugar that is so bad for you... there are all kinds of things (like excessive phosphates) that are not good on the body.

Coffee has no natural sweetener on its own. If you meat to put _in_ coffee... I'd take it black. You might also look into the sweetener "Splenda". It is touted to be made from sugar but with no carb/calorie content, but it is relatively new, so I don't know how safe it really is. Look how long it took to show the nastiness of aspertame...

Fruit juices are generally VERY high in sugar. Cranberry juice slightly less so, but you may as well jus eat an orange since it is more filling, less concentrated sugar and you get the additional fiber in your diet.

Sweet n Low contains aspertame. Consider using a twist of lemon... or orange instead.

You're right about the Sweet n Low... I was thinking Equal. Sorry about that. I does contain saccharine, though.

What else you put in your coffee is really up to you, but vanilla soy milk would be a great choice.

For iced tea, I prefer lemon, but I really lost my taste for sweets, so that suits me. You might consider a little honey (burns slightly slower than straight sugar), orange twist... something like that. Again, Splenda has had no negative reports yet.

I have irritable bowel syndrome. I do not drink any diet drinks of any kind. I do not use equal, sweet n low, or anyother substitute. If I do, I will bloat and cramp really bad for the next couple of days. I drink coffee every morning with sugar. I use to drink diet dew every day, coffee with sugar sub. every am. I quit those products over 2 years ago, and I have alot less problems with my IBS.

If you want less problems with IBS -- Stop drinking coffee. It not only contains caffeine which is a no---no for IBS'ers but it also activates your gallbladder to produce more bile and in many cases causes diarrhea.

God Bless----Harry

Diet rite does not contain aspartame (nutrasweet). It is sweetened by a combination of I think it's saccharin, stevia and sucralose.

Aspartame can cause stomache discomfort and a variety of other ill effects depending on the person. It is made from wood alcohol...a natural product which in its pure form will make you go blind! This was found in a study by American Airlines in about 1987 when several pilots complained of poor vision on long flights....the stewardeses were handing out a sugar free gum to everyone who boarded the plane as a promotion. Needless to say, pilots are not allowed to eat or drink anything with aspartame anymore.

Regarding the IBS...a woman I work with had had an almost complete cessation of symptoms by taking COMPLEX vitamin B (100mg) and 50 mg Zinc daily. IBS is related to stress and Vitamin B combats stress. She has been so much better since my suggestion...she tells everyone about it!
