I take the regular centrum every day as my multi..But when I spoke to someone at a vit. store they told me that vit. isn't great. Of course she wanted to sell me her brand which was GNC Ultra Mega for women. I haven't taken that one yet because it does contain some herbs that I am not sure of. So for now I am still taking my centrum along with my other vitamins..I am curious also to know what other people think about the Ultra Mega and Centrum?????????bride527 IP: Logged |

whenever i go to GNC, they alyz say that Ultra Mega is better than any other multi vit.. but this one guy was honest and said that Centrum isnt bad at all, but the Ultra Mega has added vitamins and more content of certain vitamins that women need. But i think I'll switch to the regular Centrum soon. But either way, you get your vitamins from natural foods you eat.. IP: Logged |

The thing to check out with vitamins is how they made them. Take a Centrum vitamin, place it in an oven set at about 400 degrees, and let it cook there for about 5 minutes. You will see your "healthy" vitamin ooozing black tar and it will stink. That is because most brand-x vitamins are from coal-tar derivitives rather than being made from food like they should be. If you wouldn't normally eat coal-tar, then don't eat Centrum vitamins, or most other mainstream vitamins for that matter. In fact, take a GNC vitamin and cook it and see what you get because more than likely, it will have the same ingredient. [This message has been edited by moderator1 (edited 08-05-2002).] IP: Logged |

I don't know about a national brand like Centrum, but it's a scandal that some vitamin companies think most consumers are uninformed and instead of milligrams, some of the ingredients might actually be in MICROGRAMS! (Some vitamins are in micrograms but very few).Read the label. Many vitamin stores have a large book on display where you can look up your needs, and see what is recommended. I have 2 in my area, but can't think if GNC has one. I don't go there; have other better ones where I live. I had a patient with Crohn's disease, an inflammation of the bowel, and she had to be hospitalized because the vitamin she took didn't dissolve in her stomach, and passed through her whole intestines, as a semi-dissolved,sharp object. It cut her insides like a miniture knife. (Crohn's have to take a medicine that thins their tissues, and makes their blood thin). Very weird but true. What does that mean for us healthy ones? Are we losing a lot of the vitamin because of the fillers, etc? BTW, great info on the coal tar. Didn't know that. IP: Logged |
