what are the successful methods for shaving pubic hair? My head and pubic hair is thin but I'm afraid if I shave the pubic hair with a regular razor it will grow back coarser. Any suggestions? IP: Logged |

I shave but I do not think the hair grows in more course. But I do not really let it get very long before I shave again. You may use coco butter to prevent your skin from toughening from more exposure so that you do not get ingrown hair. Blue IP: Logged |

I don't think shaving pubic hair makes it grow in any different....but it will be itchy when it does grow back in. ![]() IP: Logged |

I've been shaving for a while now....I just feel better when I do, for some reason. The only problem that I have with it is sometimes I get an ingrown hair or two. The itchiness doesn't even seem to be that bad anymore. I don't think it's any thicker when it starts growing back....maybe a little, but not too much, for me anyway. I am older and fail to understand the benefits of "shaving". Would someone please tell me. I thought hair was intended to help the electrical sparks between partners. Why change the way God mad us. There must be a reason He gave us hair in that area. When having babies, shaving was done for same reasons they shave before surgeries. I could not stand the prickley feeling when it started growing out. Marie IP: Logged |

I shave because I have 2 week heavy periods and it helps with trying to stay clean. It has nothing to do with how it looks or anything like that. I'd gladly stopped shaving if I'd stop bleeding but there's no solution to that for my particular situation. IP: Logged |

Marie55, for me personally it is because it feels so great. Hubby and I both shave so there is smooth skin during sex. It heightens the pleasure. Then of course the added benefit it makes oral sex easier because there is no hair to gag on. I know I hated it when I would have to stop oral sex on hubby to pull a loose hair out of my mouth. I can just imagine how sexy that looked or sounded when I gagged on one. Hubby says the same thing,he doesnt mind either way but he does say that no hair to gag on is nicer. Then of course it does feel cleaner. IP: Logged |

I agree with BlastOff--getting hairs out of your mouth is absolutely disgusting and it makes the person receiving feel bad. I have more luck with dipilatories. Nair is a godsend for me. i have noticed that the hair I get rid of grows back a little more sporadic and coarse, but if you keep getting rid of it, what does it matter? I only nair the sides, I keep a strip down the center. Purely for aesthetic purposes...when it's all gone I feel prepubescent and odd. I do shave the "underneath parts", the outer labia for smoothness and ease during my period...it does make staying clean easier. VITAL PRODUCT: Bikini Zone. I would be LOST without this. It's about $4 at Walmart and you slather it on after shaving, waxing, dipilatorizing (is that a word?) and it keeps you smooth for weeks, no ingrowns, no red bumps--no itching. I swear. I don't work for the company, lol! Go get it, you'll love it. ------------------ IP: Logged |

this may be a stupid question, but how do you get the straight line?. i've also thought about little designs, like a heart or something. is there a simpler way than...um, "freehand"? ![]() IP: Logged |

Metallichik~ A friend of mine and her hubby use a magazine with shaves that she picked up at the adult book store...you might try to find something like that? She told me there's all kinds of different 'styles' in there! Good luck and skillful shaving, ::winks:: Olivia IP: Logged |

Ok.. Stupid sounding question coming... Is it OK to use Nair or hair removal creams in the vaginal area??? The chemicals and all have me questioning it.

You can use a stencil if you want to create designs, and they make razors that are very small and narrow (often used for eyebrows) and it's easier to control than the regular, wide razor. Make sure you take a bath first or soak a hot washcloth -- you'll get fewer snags and nicks that way. The first time I shaved the regrowth drove me so insane I ripped myself up scratching it (even in my sleep). However, I don't get ANY of that anymore. In fact, I can barely even feel the regrowth except sometimes around my labia. But overall you really do adjust to the regrowth and it isn't a problem. I used to get severe ingrowns at first, but again, the more you work to maintain it, even if you do let it grow out again, you won't feel anywhere near the discomfort you feel at the beginning. I would not use any chemical products on the labia and in fact right on the label they tell you not to. Have your husband or boyfriend help you and do it for you, -- you turn it into a fun filled sharing experience for both. IP: Logged |

So many myths... Shaving doesn't do anything to the hair follicle, it does NOT make hair grow back thicker, darker, curlier, whatever. The only way to change the growth of your hair is to A) exchange genes B) damage the follicle. When you use a razor, you don't do either. You just cut the hair off at the surface line. So why does hair seem thicker when you shave? Well because hair is naturally tapered at the ends (when the previous hair has fallen out naturally, and hair all over your body sheds at one point or another). When you shave it, you sever it near the base where the hair is thicker. When it grows out, you think it looks thicker but it's just the ends of the hair. It also feels sharper because razors usually cut hair at an angle, so you get a pointed tip instead of rounded one. As for shaving your pubes, there is no danger (unless you count wielding a razor edge near your bits, or use chemicals to remove the hair -- If you read the instructions to most dipilatories, you will see that it says not to use near those areas, read: membranes). It is just a hassle. Most people shave because it's kinky. I once shaved myself completely with my boyfriend to see what the fuss was about. It was irritating and itchy. You are smooth for a day and then the hair starts to grow back. Sex IS more interesting without hair because there's more sensation without the hair to act as a buffer. But then, the next day, the hair starts to grow back and you feel like you're having sex with a cactus (not that my boyfriend was particularly hairy, but my bits are and well, you feel it.) I also felt exposed all the time without my pubic hair, like I was wearing no panties. I didn't like the sensation of cloth rubbing against my bare vulva. It was arousing, but disturbing, and no sex because the hair was already growing back! No fun. Anyway, some people like it, some people don't. I don't find it to be worth the hassle and nor do I feel less clean for having pubes. I just trim, that's it. Try it for yourself and decide... Oh and on a side note, VISINE is supposed to be really good for ingrown hairs. Porn stars swear by it. Put it on when you see a bump and it should go away. It sounds ridiculous but eye drops are formulated to contract blood vessels in the eyes (to make them look less red) so putting them on ingrown hairs makes a lot of sense. IP: Logged |

Marie - too funny! But seriously, I don't think God really cares if I shave my pubic hair! At least I hope he is spending his time on world peace, or something more important. Anyway, use shaving cream, not just soap and water. Get some Bikini Zone or Tend Skin to calm the area afterwards. I find it best to do it after I've been in the shower for a while, the hair is softer. Also, I apply a shave minimizing lotion (Jergans) when I get out of the shower - it helps the hair to grow back slower. Hope that helps. IP: Logged |

I just use shaving cream and a dull razor and it works for me, not itchyness or nadda. IP: Logged |

Can I use any shaving cream, like the ones from Gillete for legs and armpits? I shave the sides and yesterday shaved the lower half so that it's cleaner when I am on period and after toilet. I am considering waxing the sided because the hair there grows too fast, even when I shave daily even though the last time I tried I made a total disaster in the kitchen and there was a lot of screaming, cursing and pain IP: Logged |

I shaved it bare once. Holy itchyness! I never wanted to do it again until my BF wanted me to shave it to where there is a line in the middle. After some convincing and chasing around i let him do it. There is no itching when just the sides are gone. I keep the line trimmed, it's much cleaner during my period. Plus hair is known to trap bacteria that can cause you to smell. I haven't smelled anything since then,... even on the sweatiest of days. So there are definitely benefits from shaving in my opinion. Frankly, i hope God doesn't have the slightest idea what i do with that part of my body .IP: Logged |

How do you guys get the sides? I can never get all the hair there so I gave up shaving, but I would like to, especially because you would feel so much cleaner down there. IP: Logged |

I agree with Blastoff, it really does heighten pleasure. I go bare and when I'm done I put baby powder on for the next 2 days and from then on lotion. IP: Logged |

How about Brazilian waxing? As anyone done that? Is it painful. I heard the results were great, but 1)I'm not sure about how painful it can be 2) I don't know how confortable I would be with my legsopen, having someone else shaving my pubic area.....!! IP: Logged |

okay for those of you who have a problem with it being itchy, try shaving with clippers or a three bladed razor, you can also try using a sensitive skin lotion on it like lubriderm sensitive skin. if your boyfriend cuts his own hair i'm sure he won't mind you using his clippers as long as you have your own blade for it. and actually he might want to shave it for you. as far as getting the sides go to a spa and get it waxed professionally it usually costs between $20-$30. per visit but it usually takes a while to grow back IP: Logged |
