Hi, I am 20 years old. I have had a pain in my lower right side of my stomach since last July. At first I was told that I had ovarian cyst, but then the pain consisted and they gyn doctors said that it was something else other than my female organs. So I went back to my family doctor. They said that I had pulled my stomach muscle, and sent me through physical therapy. This still didn’t stop my pain. I am a cashier at a department store, and every time I work there, is when my pain returns. The constant bending over getting bags is what causes my pain to start. I have had ultra sounds, CT-scans and MRIs done and they still find nothing wrong. I have been checked for a hernia also. I have been on medicine for irritable bowel syndrome, and that also has not helped. I have become very frustrated with this. The pain now also happens in my lower right back and my right leg. For the past 2 nights the pain has woke me up in the middle of the night. I have an appointment with a bone and joint specialist in 2 weeks. But I was wondering if anyone had any advice on what might be wrong? I am trying to read about as much stuff as possible to help speed the process up, of finding out what is wrong. This is beginning to control my life, and I just want to find out what is wrong. Thank you for any advice you have. IP: Logged |

Hi, Well it seems like they (dr's) have done numerous tests to see if there is any type of mechanical problem that is visible. Have you had any blood work done (like ESR (sed rate) or c-reactive protein) to show if there is a inflammatory reaction going on? There is something called RSD (Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy) that comes to mind it's something that happens usually post injury or surgery to do with inflammation and the repair process in your body. There are so many things I can think of. I had the very same problems and went through a lot of tests, including all you mentioned and more. The probelm started in 1996/97 and was finally diagnosed as an Endometrioma/Desmoid Tumor in the abdominal wall muscle in June of 2000. So it took patience and a ton of medical appts. I was checked for hernia's, tumors, and all the way to Lymphoma or Leukemia. Are any of the tests done (blood work mainly) showing any direction? Mine was something that wasn't every single day but sometimes it was intollerable. If I sneezed or coughed it was like someone jabbing a knife in my lower right side. Have you ever had any abdominal/back surgery? Too many questions to ask, wish you the best with doc's etc. I know it's hard to not know whawt is going on, and you go through different doctors for help that sometimes dismiss you as it "being all in your head" but you know your body. Try not to get overly obsessed and if it is too much to work or too painful ask for help to at least treat your symptoms before you know what the actual problem is. Take Care and God Bless IP: Logged |

Thank You so much for all the information you gave to me. I have an appt. with a specialist on the 19th of this month and I am going to take it to him. He is a muscle and joint doctor. My dr. is leaning more towards that way since all the test that they have no have came back normal. If they still find nothing wrong here they are going to do exploratory surgery in my stomach. I have never had any problems before this. No back or abdominal injuries. That is what makes then so weird. Like you my pain just came and went. I don’t have it everyday. But I do notice that it starts to hurt when I work at my job and do a lot of bending. I have had a lot of blood work done, but I am not sure what test they did. Thank you for responding. I really do appreciate it. Any info I can get to help find out what is wrong is great. I have become so frustrated with my situation, and just want to know what is wrong so it can be fixed. Thank you so much again, Shasta Butler IP: Logged |

Hey, Your symptoms sounds so much like the ones I had before I had one of my ovaries removed due to endometriosis. My OBGYN actually thought it was my appendix. Luckily for me the surgeon went ahead and did surgery and found that my ovary was encased in a cyst about the size of a grapefruit. It was so large that it was trying to come in between my uterus and right ovary. I usually would only have pain after sitting, bending or having a full stomach or bladder. Have any of the drs even mentioned ENDO? It is worth at least asking the dr about. Good luck!!!! [This message has been edited by wantoknow (edited 03-07-2003).] IP: Logged |

Honey....Your story is my story!!!! Everything down to the area of pain( twisting feeling in lower right side) to MRI...CT scans..Ultrasounds...Lapro's...IBS... Checking for hernia...Activity makes it worse, especially standing...low back pain with right leg numb....so on and so forth. It wasn't until the doctor started me on lupron inspite of not finding anything and it worked!!! However, it is only a temp. fix. I am going back in for another Lapro in 6 weeks (this has been going on for over 3 years). He feels even though it was not seen, it is endometriosis. Anyway, maybe look into Lupron. Try it for 3 months and see if it works!!! I say this because I am telling you...you and I have the EXACT same story!!! Take care and keep us posted!! IP: Logged |

Wantoknow: Did you have your ovary removed at that time? I am going through some discomforts now and have already had an ovary removed in 1992. This is really feeling similiar. Fullness feeling stomach and general uncomfortable feeling. It flared up a few days ago, now. I would go to the Dr. as soon as possible, but have kind of a full schedule the next couple of weeks, that I cannot miss. I am hoping this goes away as fast as it came on. From previous experience, I know it does not go away by itself. They finally did an exploratory and found it. They removed the ovary and, of course, my appendix. So if I would have the other ovary removed then........you know what that would mean. Thanks for any info....... IP: Logged |

I found this nursing paper on the web, and the last page has info about what could be wrong based on the abdominal location. Don't know if it will be of any help, but I thought I'd give it to you anyway. Hey Pippin, nice to see you back. http://www.nursing.twsu.edu/advhealth/lesson/10/L10Abdomen.pdf wr IP: Logged |

A friend of mine had the exact same story. Sad but true it turned out she had Herpes and that was what was causing the pain. Has your doctor done any tests for STD's. It's worth checking out. IP: Logged |

Hi, I have pretty much the same symptoms as you all. My right sided pain seems to be in the area of the appendix but I have yet to have a doctor say it could be that. My pain is stabbing, tearing & burning in nature. I have Interstitial Cystitis (bladder) and some other problems but I still can't get a hold of this pain...I'm always aware of it unless I'm sleeping & I am glad that I can at least get 7 hrs. of sleep a night. I hope everyone will keep in touch and let us know if they find some answers; I will too. Take care! IP: Logged |

Dear Shast0127, I am twenty-four years old and have been diagnosed with both interstitial cystitis and endometriosis. My husband and I will be celebrating our second anniversary in June... Just ask him about those good o'le Lupron injections.... It was the worst nightmare of our lives! Lupron turned me into an angry moody individual whom no one would want to hang around. Going into direct menopause put my body through total shock! I had migraines, severe hot flashes, and Severe mood swings. Since we had just gotten married, you can only imagine what it was like for us! Sex was something I dreaded.... My biggest fear, was that of being raped, because sex was sooo painful for me. I was very frustrated, upset, and depressed. The injections did NOTHING for my endometriosis (I continued the tretment for three months). Getting off of Lupron was the best thing I ever did! Before the Lupron, my ob/gyn suggested I do back to back birth control pills. This worked great for a while, because it meant that I would not have to deal with controlling , life altering pain every month. But the problem with the bc pills was that I had break thru bleeding, and the pillls themselves cause undesired side effects, the major being depression. I also had the lapryscopy done, and they did the laser surgery to remove what they could find. Something they also found besides the endo, was major scar tissue and adhessions to to the wall of my stomach. That was a year ago.... now I still suffer much from Endo. My periods are something I dread... and unlike those who suffer from RIGHT abdominal pain, I suffer from Left abdominal pain. Sex can still be painful... but it is MUCH better than when I was on the Lupron. Since I went off of the Lupron in October, I have not been taking anything for bc. I wish there was something I could tell you that would cure it all.... but if that was true, I would definitely be the first one to try it. I am still looking for answers... My ob/gyn wants to send me to a Chronic pain clinic in Chapel Hill, NC. (sigh) I am very discouraged.... the pain is soooo terrific and I can't keep a steady job because of it. I also wonder how I can be a good mother, when I am in so much pain. At least I have hydrocodone, hydromorphone, and oxycodone to get me thru each month. THe medicine is so strong though, that I HAVE to go to bed... it makes me sooo sick. NOTHING, however, seems to help with the constant left sided pain... I am also on high doseages of Elavil (for the interstitial cystitis). I also started experiencing fainting spells, and constant black outs.... oh, and I also had an interesting side effect due to the prior suregery I had: when it came time for my period, my body would go into full contractions (just like it would for a pregnant woman)!!! It was awful.... but now it has finally ceased. I can honestly say "I feel your Pain". Keep me posted as to your progress... I will remember you in prayers...and ask the Lord to give you guidance concerning you options. I hope this helps answer some of your questions! jackalack IP: Logged |

I am glad to know that I am not alone. I have been having severe pain in my lower right side that feels almost like it's ripping. I was treated with antibiotics for 14 days due to the fact that I was running a high fever for several days. Even now, my temperature stays above 99.1 during the day, and around 98.1 at night. The pain is worse when I stand, bend, lift things. I am also on depression/anti-anxiety medication due to panic attacks and depression. I was told that I have (had) an infection and that the antibotics would get rid of it. But the pain is in FULL FORCE and my right leg goes numb and is sore at the hip... I don't know what to do. Are there any updates to anyone's stories? ------------------ IP: Logged |

Dear Shast0127, glad you had the endo diagnosed and removed - that was my hunch when I saw your first posting. Symptoms sounded all too familiar - it took nearly 20 years before a doc found mine (in both ovaries and one tube) but only upon removal during a total hysterectomy (had initially gone in for uterine fibroids). I'm glad I opted to take out the ovaries at the same time - otherwise I still may not have known about the endo and I'd still be in pain! Also endo can progress into cancer if left unchecked and stimulated by estrogen... ------------------ IP: Logged |

Hi. I am 22 yrs old. I have had the same problem that you all explained. I have had this pain for over 3 years. It also started on my right side. Like you, the doctors told me it was a cyst. The tests confirmed that. I then got pregnant and the pain completly stopped. After the birth I felt good. A few months later it came back. And it is even worse than before. It aslo wakes me up in thh night. But now is on both my left and right side. The pain has moved into my lower back. The pain is worse with any physical activity, (especially yard work or any bending). I had an MRI and x-ray of my back and nothing wrong. My GYNO tells me it may be more cysts or possible endometriosis. He gave me this med called Provera. He told me it should "clean me out." It's a non-invasive D&C. I just take a pill for 12 days. I took this once before when I had a miscarriage. It is very painful. I am constantly cramping, and I should have a bout of heavy bleeding for a week or so. I am not sure if this will help my pain or not. If i still hurt after this my doc said he will look into other procedures. I understand what you are going through. No one can tell me why I am having so much pain. My back pain is the worse it has ever been. When I cough or sneeze I feel like a hammer just hit me. It is not getting any better. If you find out anything let us know. good luck. IP: Logged |
