If eaten in large quantities, yes, it could give you an intestinal blockage.

Not the way I'd choose to get my daily fiber...I'd seriously try to stop eating napkins & stuff.

That may be a deficiency, and you may be instinctively trying to compensate.

DEFINATELY see your doc.

This is really a different scenario. How long have
you been doing this? For years, or somewhat
recently? I would definitely see a Doctor to see
if he can figure out why you are doing this. It
cannot be good for you.

As well as seing a doctor (psychiatrist), I would also suggest that you try a homeopathic remedy called LAC FELINUM. One of the symptoms listed for this remedy under food is a 'great desire to eat paper'. How interesting and this remedy just happens to be cat's milk in potency too!!

I wonder if this is like the whole "eating paste" thing in high school. I used to do that. And playdough, and wall paper paste. Never ate mud though.

But the smartest girl in our entire class (in kindergarten and 1st grade) -- brilliant girl -- used to eat paper constantly!! I mean, literally she would eat paper in class!!

Odd thing is, the nuns never said anything to her, no one seemed concerned about it, they figured it's just a fluke I guess, the same way many of us girls at the time used to suck on our hair? (But maybe that was more behavioral where-as the paper thing might be more related to some type of deficiency).

What kind of deficiency, though, would spur someone on to eat paper?

The human body has a way of telling you what it needs and we're pretty efficient at trying to self-regulate. It's just that we usually feel the need to intervene and repress these expressions instead of letting them surface and work themselves through.

there is a condition called pica. It is the eating of non-food items, including papar. A nutritional deficancy may be the culprit. What i read said that iron and zinc serum levels should be checked as well as other tests for deficancies in the diet.
If you put pica in your search engine you will come up with info on it. (we can't post those here).

If this is the case, then vitamins and mineral supplements will be needed. Also, Calc Carb might be a very good remedy.
