I've been having severe lower back pain around my hip area and lower spine. I found these lumps around where the pain is. They're probably about 6 of them, which are about the size of a quater and some of them are directly over my lower spine. They seem to have fluid around them. I called my doctor for an appointment and she can't see me until next month. I was wondering if this is something that requires immediate medical attention or if anyone here knows of anything this may be.

Thanks for any help/suggestions.

Hi tlh77 and welcome

This doesn't sound good at all. Did you tell your doctor of these welts or lumps you described? If she cannot see you immediately, and cannot refer you to someone quickly...I don't know, I'd be in the ER pronto. This is not normal. I have not heard of this phenomena...nor have I seen anyone else write about it. However...there is one person here who has a hematoma from surgery that won't heal. Though hers sounds more 'solid' than yours. Hopefully, she will have some advice for you.

Good luck to you. Don't mess around with this, I think your body is crying out for help...find out what it's problem is. God Bless.

Hi TLH 77 & Successtory,

I agree, you should go to the ER, I don't think what you are describing should wait one month.
The anxiety alone from waiting, would drive me nuts.

I have the hematoma that won't go away, but it is a post-op problem.
I have a history of retaining fluid, and I have a buldging muscle going directly in the center of the swelling.
They tell me it's a spasm that won't go down, but also at times, I think they messed something up while closing me up after the surgery, which they will never admit to.

What you describe, doesn't sound normal, unless you have injured that area in some way to cause swelling.
Then again, they could just be fatty cyst's.

I would call your doctor and stress how much this is worrying you, and maybe they can fit you in, or give you a referrral to another doctor, who can see you sooner.

I wish you well, and I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers

Take Care,
Baxter

Two level laminectomy fusion L5-S1 & L2-3 done on 12/6/02.
Fifteen inch scar from the very top of butt crack (sorry), to the bra line.
BAK cages, rods & screws.(Titanium)
My pelvic bone was used for grafting.
Praying that the other two discs in between, won't have to be fused later, as I was told it was a possibility, due to the other two discs in between, not being in that great of shape.
Doc didn't want to fuse four levels, unless it is really necessary.
I would hate to repeat the surgery, as the recovery period, is so very painful.
I also have a free fragment in my T11-12 area, that I'm still refusing surgery for, at this point in time.
That surgery is way too dangerous for me to consider, until if affects my being able to walk.
