Has anyone had success taking vitamins or other supplements to increase their hair growth? My hair is thick and shiny but just doesn't seem to grow fast. IP: Logged |

When I was taking pre-natal vitamins my hair grew like wild fire. I think there are some health risks associated with taking them if you aren't pregnant. Not sure, but it's worth checking on. There are some vitamins that advertise they promote hair growth. I've never known anyone who took them though. IP: Logged |

Come to think of it, my hair grew really fast when I was taking pre-natal vitamins too. I would think there are other regiments out there to help with hair growth. Anyone? IP: Logged |

Flax or Hempseed Oil - 1 tablespoon a day of the concentrated liquid. Tastes bad, works wonders for the skin hair and nails. Horsetail, MSN, biotin, zinc, copper...these are some of the main supplements to be taking. It is easiest to find them all in the correct balances in a hair formulation. IP: Logged |

Flax oil is excellent for hair skin and nails. I use a brand called Spectrum. Its the tastiest of all the brands and its cold pressed so it has to stay refrigerated. Biotin and copper especially help with hair growth. Also, optimal amounts of protien and water in your diet keeps hair supple and from drying out. Most good multi-vitamins/.mineral work fine for your vitamins and minerals. Twin Lab makes one that isn't hard as a rock and dosen't have iron in it(drives my tummy crazy iron does!)You definitly have to be careful not to take too much copper though. Biotin is mostly in micrograms and so most multi vitamins have it at the recommended dose already. You have to be careful with the flax oil though. Too much flax at one time can upset your stomach. The recommended amount is 1 tablespoon per 100lbs per day for normal folks. You may want to break this up the first week. I take up to 4 tablespoons a day (I'm an athlete though...but thats another story) There's also some mixes of EFA's...Udo's Choice is one (its not that great tasting and its quite expensive for a small bottle) I drink mega water..maybe 1 1/2 gallons a day and eat my protien rich foods first, carbs last. I think some of this, especially the flax (you won't believe how good your skin, hair, and nails look and feels after a month on this stuff!) will work for most people. -BOS IP: Logged |

Keep in mind, that vitamins and supplements work best when you are already eatting healthy and exercise daily to get the blood flowing (blood brings the nutrients to your scalp, and often the scalp has poor circulation). Eatting healthy, vitamins, good hair products, treating your hair gently and scalp massages will all help your hair to grow as fast as it can. Other then that, nothing will make your hair grow faster overnight. IP: Logged |

I worked for a doctor awhile back and he told me that the best vitamins that you can take are prenatal vitamins. He said you can take these if you are pregnant or not. So I took them even though I was not pregnant with no problem. Prenantal vitamins are sold over the counter so you can ask the pharmasistist his/her opinion. ![]() IP: Logged |

Hi, For proper hair growth, one needs to eat a well balanced diet, get plenty of rest,de-stress,drink plenty of water and have the ends trimmed every 4-6 weeks. It is true Pre-natal Vitamins make hair grow, however if your not pregnant and don't need the extra vitamins they contain,I wouldn't take them.
