hi anna
i am a 23 year veteran hairdresser-and salon owner. I built a fortune correcting other peoples mistakes. so now i am recently retired at 37. i work as a writer for a salon magazine sharing info. and know quite a few tricks i am also an aromatherapist, and a phd candidate for naturopathy. I know what i am talking about. also wash and rinse with the coolest water possible
For a salon treatment get matrix prizms. Call around to salons and see who uses it. go in with cleaN DRY HAIR AND HAVE THEM PUT IT ON and do not sit under the dryer even if they tell you it penetrates deeper. the heat will only open your cuticle (the outer layer of hair further) you wish to smooth it down. i sometimes let clients go home with it on (clear color only) as the longer you keep it on the better it works. It does not have a developer aka peroxide. do not let them talk you into anything else. nothing is better. not Shades not cellophanes not anything. get it done like 2 or 3 times as the effects are get better and better and the super shine becomes more intense and durable. Yes it coats your hair and that is what you want. it is adaptogenic where with heat it will give more body and without it will smooth hair down. I have fixed many a disaster.
Also Invest in a good shampoo and conditioner i like bed head moisture maniac. make sure you comb the conditioner through wile it is in your hair. this further smoothes the cuticle
for an all natural approach there are several oils that will work great. Either apply them at night before you go to bed or when you wake up and have time to leave it in i usually put the oil on and clean my house or work out.then i shampoo twice and condition The best oils are jojoba, grapeseed, sesame, and almond as they are light in color and texture i have used avocado, olive other nut oils but because of their strong odor or dark color which can be absorbed by light hair. i use them on dark hair only
because your hair is fine i would apply the oil only to the dry ends. same for conditioners. you do not have to glob it all over. also stay away from volumizing shampoo and conditioners as they work by roughing upo the hair leaving it drier in the end.

my skin is dry so i also put these oils on after i shower. jojba is actually a wax that mimics natural sebum. I buy only organic oils. Organic supermarkets carry alot of these oils for cooking . it is the same thing as those little bottles you find in expensive aromatherapy shops. good luck!

Matrix prizms is that the same as clear gel prizms? If it is that stuff works great the first 1 or 2 times then doesn't seem to work anymore. Maybe it's because they always had me sit under the dryer for about 20 mins after it was in?

if it is matrix prizms clear its in a black bottle. the first few times you use it the contrast before and after is more noticable because your hair was more porous so it was a dratic difference. i don't go under the dryer for my own hair i like to leave it on for an hour or two as i'm cleaning my house. then some people like to shampoo it out and some just rinse it out. i shampoo it because my hair is long.
Also make sure they are sectioning your hair when they apply it. some hairdresers are lazy or stingy with products and don't put enough on also ask them yo comb it through. like i said above put it on dry hair as the water blocks out the prizm. you want to make sure your ends are well coated too. tell them your hairdresser friend told you this. if they just slop it on likt a conditioner your are probably getting a lousy application. go when you have a long time to sit or ask if you can go home with it in your hair if they agree wash it out later that day.put a plastic cap on it or wrap it in plastic wrap don't go to bed with it

Hi Rose,
Thanks for some news I'll try it and let you know how it works...I really think that my hair is much better wavy because when I try to straighten it. it never lasts more than one hour..It justs waves again.I guess thats what you get when you have natural wavy hair....thanks again Anna

hi anna and moette
glad to be of help
anna i would leave it wavy until it gets healthy again. then try a flat iron and straightening balms are great. I like matrix sleek look line all the products are great i also like back to basics smoothing elixer too. make sure you comb it through for a minute or two starting with a wide toothed comb then switching to a finer tooth comb(s). Always aim the blowdryer air going down the shaft you can pull your hair straight down with your fingers to get some moisture out before using a brush.

At work i usually comb a balm throug comb the hair as straight as possible and put my clients under a hood dryer. I flat iron when it is dry. Saves alot of time. I tell people if you use a flat iron and your hair dries to crazy when you apply heaqt then let it dry natural or pony tail it and flat iron when dry.
also comb your conditioner through and rinse with cool water. Hot water has smaller molecule that work there way into the cuticle and lift it out leaving hair frizzy. The combing action is very important as this smoothes the cuticle and begins the straightening process.

ps stay away from products labeled humectants they draw moisture from the air into your hair making it frizz even more. Anti humectants repel water. i use humectants when someone want more curl or wave

Hi. I just read your last post. I have frizzy hair that is dry and damaged. My hair stylist recommends me using Biolage shampoo and conditioner, and i know this stuff has humectants in it. So maybe thats why my hair has gotten alot frizzier huh? What is a good shampoo and conditioner that is good to use for frizzy hair? thanks

Also I took your advice you gave to someone else and Im gonna go in and have a clear glosssing treatment done.......but is that damaging?

Hi Amberly,
matrix prizms glossing does not dry hair out.Do not go under the dryer with it. Other brabds that have a developer are drying.
Biolage makes your hair feel nice when it is wet but once you dry it it doesn't do much. I really am not a fan of it.
Try the matrix sleek line or the framesi hair mask is excellent too. It helps smoothe hair out. Try putting the oil in your hair the night before you wash it. You don't have to glob it on. You can also throw it in in the morning if you have some time!

i was thinking of using peroxide to lighten all of my hair and then use medium brown dye over it, but now that i know it will dry out my hair, i don't want to do that...but my hair is now two different colors, so what should i do?????
