Well first and foremost does your hair atleast have a little bit of a natural wave to it. If you have fine thin straight hair, I'm not so sure you can.
But..heres what I do...

Towl dry your hair after you just washed it. Put in some volumizing mousse, I do two squirt, but it depends on how long your hair is..mine is below my shoulder blades. Anyways, brush the mousse through your hair then I take the damp towl and put it around my head and scrunch my hair w/ the towl. If you dont mind it a wet for a little while I hairspray it and go. Or you can pin it up a little in little twisty buns and take a blowdryer on cool air and blowdry it a little. Not till its completely dry though. And dont brush your hair, or it will wreck it.

There is a curing iron made by Conair that has a ridge going around it in a spiral from top to bottom that will make waves. I liked it, but my hair is too short to use it. They also make another one that has 3 barrels, with one of them offset, that is supposed to wave, however it made indentations in my hair. Hope this helps!

1goodgirl: Where did you find the curling iron w/ the little spiral thing around it?
I'd like to try it. And how much was it?

to get really volumous wavy hair, the best thing to use is a curl creme (i use the one by pantene) and volumizing mouse.

then here's the trick!!!

use a diffuser to dry your hair. if you dont have one and dont want to buy one, just take a pair of panty hose or mesh undies and cover the end of your blowdryer with them and rubber band them so they stay. this works just as well as a diffuser and is so much cheaper!!! (be sure to use it on the low, warm settings) hope this helps

hey, this may sound a bit simplistic, but I have hair down past my waist and when I want to give it some body and soft waves: I wash it, brush it, and then wait untill its almost dry. Then I rub in a little mousse and a high, tight braid on each side of my head. Sonetimes I do just one braid. Then I sleep on it or leave it in for at least a few hours. When I take it down it's wonderful! Full, bouncy and natural looking, without much styling. Its great. You can either brush it out gently to get a fuller, slightly poofy look or just leave it like it is. Bend over, flip your hair over and shake it, then use a little hairspray but not much. TA DA, great waves. Let us know how it goes.
