Hi everyone! I am 27 years old and after using what I use on my face it looks like I have no pores!! I did post a message saying I used Visine with my foundation but I read on another board about using 'Queen Helene's Mint Julep Masque' It's only about $3.00 at Wal-Mart and smells like mint gum! It doesn't tingle when you put it on! It's supposed to 'shrink' large pores, dry up acne and pimples (which i don't have) and it rinses away blackheads! Now I bought it because it said that even people without skin problems the mask is a 'refreshing facial treatment that relaxes tired muscles and tension lines on the face'! Well, after I used it, I LOVED the way my skin felt...it just felt CLEAN! Try it! You'll love it! Oh, it doesn't make the skin feel dry either!

Don't all of you expect your blackheads to just disappear, but this is a great pore tightening mask.

Poreoilyme- I don't get that many blackheads so I guess I am not too worried about that. I steam my face and stuff too so i guess that helps?

Spikie- I leave this mask on for about 20 minutes, sometimes longer before I take a shower...then I just step in the shower stick my face in the water and wipe the stuff off with a wash cloth...

To steam your face you can use a humidifier on low heat and put your face over it (NOT TOO CLOSE!). Then you cover your head and the humidifier with a towel to trap the steam. It opens up the pores, making them easier to clean and also makes it easier to pluck your eyebrows. Other than that, its just refreshing, like a sauna for your face only.

you can also steam your face by turning the hot water on in the sink and leaning over the sink with a towel draped across your head trapping in the steam

..or boil water in a pot on the stove and then sit with a towel over your head and the pot (off the burner of course).

I have been using the Mint Julip mask for years - since about I was 15 (I'm 23). To see good results, you do have to be consistent with your usage (as far as acne goes). But for a quick softner and relaxer - this stuff works wonders the first time. I was afraid for a while because I didn't see it at Rite-Aide (which replaced all of our Savons here) but they do carry it now so I can continue to benefit. Great product, even better price!!

I use the same brand...only Grape Seed Extract...It's nice but I'm dying to try the Mint Julep...I've read alot of good things about that one. I have a very mild case of adult acne...I'm breaking out by the mouth area...I've tried everything and now I've seen a Dr. and on his meds...I'm gonna try this and see how it helps. Thanks

I have been using the Mint Julep and I'm satisfied with it; however, it really doesn't compare to the number one mask I've ever used. The only reason I don't have any now is that the MJ was easy to get and a little cheaper. Mary Kay's Number #3 mask for oily skin is the absolute best one I have ever used. The MJ can leave it a little red or bumpy, but Mary Kay's is unbeatable. I'm so surprised no one's talking about it.

You don't need to skip a day at all, unless you have very dry skin. You can use it even several times a day. It is absolutely harmless and it works beautifully. I have been using it since I was a teenager and still love it because after I use it my skin just seems to look translucent and flawless.

Hey everyone!!

Can you use this Mint Julep Masque for oily skin? Also 'POREOILYME' can you get Mary Kay's masque for oily skin in the united kingdom. Does it reduce oiliness during the day? What other effects can you see from using it?

Masking helps decrease oil slightly for a short period of time afterward, tighten pores, and deep cleans your pores, lifting dead cells and some plug debris, but it's no answer to a consistent decrease in oil. More like a quick fix oil-wise, and good for maintenance and tone on a longer term basis.

You might want to try putting Mary Kay in on your search engine and finding out if you can get it directly. If not, they can give you someone to e-mail who will send it to you. Those reps want to make money, and you will get a quick response from someone who will be glad to ship it to you. It is a good product and worth going to the extra effort for over and above the Mint Julep mask which isn't nearly as good (let's face it, you get what you pay for, and MK is about 4x what Mint Julep is, but is has a much better formulation). Some people also swear by the Acne Treatment Gel, which is basically a non-irritating BP lotion.

In some cases you get more than what you pay for. Queen Helene Mint Julep masque is truly wonderful. If you have oily skin, it helps with that (yes, temporarily--nothing works permanently to reduce oil secretions except Accutane, which shrinks oil glands). If you have acne it helps to dry up pimples almost overnight and does not irritate the skin. If you have no oily skin and no acne then it simply tightens your skin while getting rid of some of the debris in the pores and does indeed make skin look almost poreless. I'd say that's pretty good for a $4.00 mask. I cannot comment on Mary Kay since I have never used any products from this company but I have to say that sometimes what we pay for an item has nothing to do with how effective it is. Many times what we pay for is the "name" and fancy packaging.

If you have very dry skin I would not recommend using the Mint Julep Masque. It is a clay-based product and all such masques are quite drying by nature. Also, it will do absolutely nothing for red marks or scarring. This masque is great for normal-to-oily skin, with or without acne but not for very dry skin.

It depends what the red marks are and what kind of sacrring you have. If the red marks are leftovers from acne pimples then these are temporary and will fade on their own with time. It make take up to six months for them to fade completely but usually does not take that long. If you want to hurry up the process (and who wouldn't?)then you could use something called Kinerase. It is made from a plant derived chemical and is very gentle and well tolerated by most people. It also helps with dry skin and even wrinkles so it's a win-win situation in your case. The only drawback is its cost. It is usually sold by dermatologists but can be obtained online (I think even Ebay has these) for much less. There is also another version of this but the formulation is much weaker. It is called Kinetin by Almay. Other options for red acne marks is Vitamin K cream, Retin-A (prescription only), as well as any product with AHA acids since they encourage exfoliation (removal of old, damaged cells). There is a great number of products available over the counter which have these ingredients. Just take a trip to your nearest drug store and you should find shelves loaded with thse products. Just pick one that appeals to you. One word of warning: if you do choose AHA products, start with a lower concentration of the acids to make sure your skin tolerated them well. Then you can progress to higher levels. Also, make sure you wear a sunscreen when outdoors since exposure to sunlight may make your temporary red marks much more permanent. This is true for any scar, not just red marks. Sunlight should be avoided while your scar tissue is still new. For old scars (keloid or depressed kind) you may need to have laser treatments, nothing else will do much for these. You really need to talk to a dermatologist regarding your options.I hope I was able to help somewhat but if you have more questions don't hesitate to ask.

Mint Julep Masque was specifically made for oily and acne prone skin. It is very mild and non-irritating unless you have dry skin.
