What does everyone like in the way of moisturizers? I just can not seem to find one that does not feel sticky. Any suggestions? thanks! IP: Logged |

I have been using a drugstore brand called Complex 15 for years. I keep trying more expensive brands, but everything else makes me break out and makes the redness of my rosacea worse. It is the only moisturizer that feels completely non-greasy. Soaks right into the skin. It's worth a shot at only $7 per tube. IP: Logged |

I use Origins Night-A-Mins at night after washing my face. In the morning, I use Aveeno Baby Lotion on my whole body, including my face. It has no fragrance, isn't sticky, and my dry skin loves it. It's also only $4 for a huge tube. IP: Logged |

I've had acne since I've been pregnant, and the only thing I've found that I like is Neutrogena Sensitive Skin. It is oil and alcohol free and glides right on. You can really tell it's water based because it isn't sticky at all. IP: Logged |

If you are 21 and have acne then avoid all moisturisers like the plague. Moisturizers will aggrevate your acne terribly and UNLESS you have acne AND very DRY skin (an unlikely scenario), you do NOT need moisturisers. Actually, moisturizers are a lot of hype created by cosmetics companies. You cannot mosturize your skin from the outside so moisturizers do not add any moisture to your skin, they simply form a barrier to keep whatever moisture is in your skin from evaporating. For this purpose even plain, simple vaseline will do the job quite well. The only real (and the best) way to add moisture to your skin is to add moisture to your body by drinking lots of water, the best and cheapest moisturizer of all. I have dry skin and always have, the kind that is very tight and itchy after I wash my face. I have to have moisturizer. I'm 22 and pregnant, and have had hormonal breakouts worse than my years in puberty. I have also read that not using moisturizer will cause your skin to overproduce oil after washing to compensate for the dryness and can make acne worse. I do agree to some degree. I have had to discontinue my regular skincare regiment (which I LOVED) after I got pregnant because it made my acne so much worse. But if you get a moisturizer formulated for acne prone skin, I think you shouldn't have a problem. I haven't. Maybe my situation is different because of the pregnancy. I'm not sure, it's just my opinion. IP: Logged |

I disagree with rita. I find that when I use a moisturizer I get less breakout. I like Neutrogena Combination Skin Moisture.IP: Logged |

Girlie19, I can bet anything that the moisturizer you are using has other active ingredients which help the acne. The fact that the company chose to call it a moisturizer is just a way to market the product for people who don't want to be using "acne" products. IP: Logged |

Well, Rita, I have to disagree. I am a beauty consultant, and a moisturizer is a moisturizer..... it replenishes moisture the skin loses from frequent washing and environment. Just because it has acne fighting ingredients in it doesn't disqualify it from being a moisturizer. [This message has been edited by siren24 (edited 04-08-2003).] IP: Logged |

And I have to disagree also. Moisturizers do not replenish moisture lost. This is a very common misconception. They form a barrier between skin and air to prevent loss of moisture. That's entirely quite two different things. As I said before, the best way to put moisture back into skin is from the inside out. What makes the skin feel less tight after putting the moisturizer on is not moisture (another name for water) but oils. Please read the list of ingredients in any so-called moisturizer and you will find that oil (under many guises and shrouded with mysterious chemical names) is one of the top ingredients. These oils are the major reason why a person with acne prone skin should avoid moisturizers. Some moisturizers contain non-oily humectants that prevent water loss from the skin by attracting moisture (glycerin is one such humectant) but these only work if there is sufficient moisture in the air. Actually it doesn't contain any acne fighting ingredients. No active ingredients. It's easy to talk about something (acne) when you don't have to go througt it!IP: Logged |

I don't think that putting Vaseline on your skin would be a good idea if you are prone to acne, it seems like it would definetely clog your pores. IP: Logged |

I use Clean and Clear's Acne Fighting Daily moisturizer. I really like it. It is the only one that has worked for me and it is light and airy. Not oily at all. Also it runs between $3-$4 a bottle and it lasts a while. Rita while what you said about moisturizers can be true with some. But some out there are actually meant to protect you skin from uv rays and outside elements. Because outside elements can be more harmful to skin than a light moisturizer. Much love Sunnie [This message has been edited by dustbunnys_baby (edited 04-09-2003).] IP: Logged |

The best moisturizer out there is cheap. Its Vaseline Intensive Care. I have tried the expensive stuff, but nothing can compare to the results you'll see with this one after only a week. I love it. IP: Logged |

You don't need a moisturizer to protect your skin against the sun. Use sunscreen. IP: Logged |

Well Rita, I would bet you're about the only one on this board who doesn't use a moisturizer. You can drink enough water to float a small ark, but it's nothing but hype and isn't going to make your skin soft like a cream will. You are right in that it helps to form a barrier on your skin, but so does foundation. To tell people that they don't need a moisturizer is a little unrealistic. Yes, maybe good old vaseline will work just as well, but do you really want that stuff on your face? Not to mention it's going to clog your pores big time. Vaseline is not meant to be worn on a person's face, it's greasy, it's heavy, it looks awful, and it keeps your skin from breathing. I personally wouldn't think of putting that stuff on my skin. I do believe if you used a microscope to look at skin cells before and after moisturizing, only then would you see the difference. It definitely makes the skin softer and more toucheable.....and isn't that what being a girl is all about?? IP: Logged |

I swear by Eucerin for face... it also has 25spf and I heard they came out with an even higher spf. This stuff does not feel greasy at all and it's the only moisturizer I've ever found that I can also wear under foundation without it affecting the coverage. I have acne, I also have dry skin... using eucerin on a daily basis helps with both those problems for me. The eucerin acts as a barrier that protects my skin... I have very sensitive skin so even if I don't get a breakout or a dry rash my skin can react to so many other things in the environment. IP: Logged |

I think that no one here has really read carefully or understood my posts. I never said that no one should use a moisturizer. I simply answered the original post which asked about a moisturizerBased on her pseuodonym (21withacne)I assumed that she has acne and advised her against moisturizers for acne-prone skin because many of them contain oils which she does not need for her skin condition. Then I went on to explain that moisturizer do not put moisture into the skin but they prevent it from evaporating from skin by forming an oily barrier. And I stand by my words that you need to drink plenty of water to help keep all of your organs in good condition and that includes skin, the largest organ humans possess. And no, I do not use any moisturizers on my face at all and my skin is very soft. I do use scented lotions on my body but not for their moisturizing properties but because I find them the best way to impart a delightful aura of my favorite fragrance. IP: Logged |

I strongly suggest picking up a bottle of "Beyond Belief"'s Alpha-Beta Hydroxy (oil/oil free) Moisturizer... It really does the trick, my skin is extra extra sensitive and tends to get really red and irritated when I put lotions, moisturizers, etc... so it really does the trick, really gentle and smells good too IP: Logged |

I get zits sometimes, but I still use moisturizer. Right now I am using clean & clear moisturizer -- helps fight zits and moisturizes at the same time. I couldn't live without it! I have combination skin BTW. :P Sara IP: Logged |

I have very oily skin which tends to be sensitive and prone to breakouts. Mary Kay's moisturizer works really well for me. It's oil free and fragrance free. IP: Logged |

I swear by Zia products. They have all natural ingredients and are very light. They have AWESOME moisturizers and lotions. My face used to feel tight and dry after I washed it, but since I have started using their products, my face feels normal before and after washing. I wash with their moisturizing cleanser and follow with a papaya extract exfoliant and moisturizer with suncreen in the morning and citrus renewal cream at night. They also make a brown sugar body scrub that is excellent for exfoliating the rest of the body. Sorry to go on and on, I hope this helped. IP: Logged |

Skin types vary, hence the variety of moisturisers. Okay, some are probably over priced and we can very likely find something cheap enough to suit us all instead of paying for flash packaging. As for me personally, i only use a light moisturiser during the colder months, but during summer especially, i hardly ever touch the stuff. One jar lasts me forever. The one i use is called Emu Natural (lol, dont laugh!! Yes it's made from emu oils as in the bird called an emu). My skin is combination, but only slightly and i used a cleanser from Clarins called Cleansing Milk which is herbal and kind of milky/creamy and doesnt dry out my skin so thats possibly another reason why i don't require much moisturiser. As for rita's suggestion...yes, drinking water does keep the body hydrated, but i dont think that's the solution for everybody. Also, the only time i'd use vaseline on my face would be if i wanted to keep my husband away IP: Logged |

I've shopped around in the past, and I honestly believe that for those with really dry problem skin the best moisturizer (the one which I am using now) is Neutrogena OIL-FREE, FRAGRANCE-FREE moisturizer. -- or generally, any moisturizer without oil or fragrance are excellent. I guess my skin is sensitive and moisturizers with frangrance in them tend to have an opposite effect - my skin starts degrading. Since I've been using this kind of moisturizer, my skin, for the first time in a long time, has been healthy and normal looking. You put it on and your skin feels healthier, it feels moisturized, as opposed to the feeling of having something heavy, oily, and smelly, polluting the skin. Hope that helps.
