Hello everyone,

Can someone help me? I have permanent colored hair that is dark brown. Everytime I get my hair colored about 4 weeks later I start seeing gray. Should I give up doing the all over color and just get highlights? There's such a big contrast between dark brown and gray. I can say the last time I got my hair colored I went to a salon that only used Aveda products. This was the first time in 10 years of coloring my hair that my scalp didn't itch and burn.

Would appreciate any responses.
thanks,
Renee

I'd love any ideas, too! My dark brown hair is natural, but I'm starting to find grey hairs and they are making me nuts! I'm also petrified of hi-lites b/c I don't want fake blonde or purple streaks in my hair!

I know what you mean SG. Before I started seeing gray hairs I did have my hair highlighted once by JC Penney..BIG MISTAKE!! That lady streaked my hair and I looked like a striped tiger. I had to let it grow out. It looked awful. It was "fake blond" looking. Dark hair with white streaks every so often. That woman didn't have a clue what she was doing.

HI , I am 34 and have brown hair and i color my hair a medium brown, It covers all my gray, and i like it cause it gives my hair a richer look than my natural dull brown, Good luck , I likw using loreal its very good, I am also a cosmotoligist , I never buy the exspensive stuff. You could also try a semipermanent color to see if that works then it will wash out.

renee, I have medium-brown hair and was told for years that I should have it highlighted. I finally found a hairdresser that specializes in haircolor, and she loves to experiment. In the summer, she highlights my hair in 2 types of blond, and in the winter she adds a little red. It is definitely better than the all-over because when it begins to grow out, the grey blends in with the highlights and the roots don't show nearly as bad. If you're going to have it done, go to a reputable salon, not just a jc pennney or cuts-r-us!!! It's worth the money if you can afford it.

Sassy~

Your hair sounds pretty, and being a cosmotologist you probably know all the tricks.

Susie~

Do you permanent color your hair also, or do you just do the highlights? When I had my hair highlighted at JCpenney I lived in a small town now I live in Houston and my options are endless. There are many good salons here. I see lots of stylish haircuts and color.

Can either of you help answer this question? You know when a woman is about 50% gray and she gets highlights that look like an ashy blond with a salt and peppery
look?? I see alot of women my age with this type of hair. I will be turning 40 in December and not looking forward to it, so I need a change to help me feel a little better.

Have a great day

My mom is graying a good bit, and she has kept her hair hightlighted for a few years now and yes it hides the grey well. Like someone said above, you definitely can't see roots either b/c the grey blends in with the highlights. It looks great!

Belle~

Thanks for the reply. I'm seriously thinking of highlights. Root coverage is just what I need.

Now I must say I'm jealous. I never thought I would like LA til I went there last month. I visted New Orleans and I absolutely fell in love with the place. I loved the food, the people the atmosphere. The french quarter was a blast My gosh, having access to all that cajun food whenever you want.

Aye eeee!

Yes it is nice...I live not quite an hour away from N.O. The food is yum! If you live here, you are always disappointed when you go out to eat on vacation! My dad just made jambalaya this past weekend. Have a great day!
